Anyone a Doctor?

Last Sunday I noticed I was forming a bit of a rash on my lower legs.  It was in the center of both legs below the knee.  I didn't think much of it, covered it in Hydrocotisone, and went about my day.  But over the past week it has spread.  This morning I woke up and it covered my legs from my ankles to my thighs and my arms from my wrist to my shoulder.  It's also on the back of my neck.

There are hundreds of little raised white bumps.  WebMD seems to think they are hives and I'm going to agree with that since it doesn't look like shingles, poison ivy, or my normal heat rash.  So now that leads to the question- WTH am I allergic to that's making me break out in hives all of the sudden?  I've been living here for 10 weeks now with no problem at all, in fact my skin problems (I have eczema on my upper legs and sometimes my upper arms) had all but cleared up before this.  So WTF!  This NEEDS to be gone by next week!

Ideas?  Suggestions?  Any Grandma remedies?  Hydrocortisone is helping with the itch but not the rash.  And I've started taking Zyrthec (sp?) at night.  But I need a quicker fix.  Come on guys... HELP ME!!

Re: Anyone a Doctor?

  • Have you tried Benadryl tablets/capsules? I know you aren't supposed to use the cream and oral meds together, but if you're using hydrocortisone for the itching you should be able to take the oral form of benadryl.

As far as what's causing it I would think hard if you started anything new last Sunday, even if it's as simple as using a different scented laundry detergent. Something new must have been introduced into your environment.

I hope your hives go away soon!

  • Well, Zyrtec and Benadryl are the same thing, so I'm good there.  Only it's not working.  Woke up today- even more covered in hives!

No new detergent, no new soaps, no new shampoos, no new anything.  I stocked up on all of my stuff before coming to camp so I didn't have to buy anything while here.  I started using a new bug spray after the first rash started appearing because I thought it was bug bites causing it but haven't used it in three days. Now food wise I discovered Dr. Pepper with real sugar (!!!) last week, and rediscovered my love for Sunny D.  Otherwise everything in my diet is the same.

My Dad thinks I got bit by a spider that I am very allergic to and it's now coursing through my bloodstream causing the hives, but even he can't explain why they're getting worse a week later.  I'm thinking it's environmental, maybe a new tree bloomed here in the past week or something and I'm allergic to it.

In any case, I'm itchy and miserable and worked it out with my boss that if I'm not better by Tuesday I'm leaving camp on Wednesday and going home so I can see a doctor and get out of the environment.
