"Do you just grow out of making out?"

This was DH's response to my asking him why he isn't interested in making out anymore.  We used to be make out crazy when we were dating and early on in our marriage.  But, for the past few years it's like I have to force him to make out with me.  He only wants a few kisses then straight onto the sex.  I need a little foreplay, hello!

So, are you all still big into making out, or was it something you left behind in your teenage years?

Re: "Do you just grow out of making out?"

  • No, I don't think you grow out of it.  My DH & I make out all the time - and he loves it.  In fact, he's often the initiator of it.  And he's nearly 48.

Sounds like he's in a rut.  Maybe you can turn it into a night of role play - tie him up, then kiss him.  Tell him you're in charge and tease him.  Maybe it'll get both of you worked up.

  • I have yet to "grow out of it," but it seems that H has. He has never been the PDA type-holding hands is sometimes too much for him. I, too, have to remind him that foreplay really is THAT important!

  • Not sure if you can grow out of it, I know many people don't make time for it.  Just like everything else, dam everyday life gets in the way.

  • So tell him you need some foreplay.

And, no, I don't think most people grow out of this.

    Hope is not a strategy.

This. I don't think it's so much a matter of growing out of it as it's a matter of not making time for it anymore.

Was he big on making out when you first got together or was he always like this?

  • we are in the same situation. DH never wants to make out, but we used to when we dated and for the early part of our marriage.  he says he "just doesn't want to." if i figure out how to help him want to, i'll let you know. Tongue Tied

Hey, just out of curiosity, what do you do for a living?  I see that you are a network engineer, can you elaborate on that?  It seems that the overwhelming majority of your posts are about work stress and long hours getting in the way of life.  Just wondering.

  • We love to make out, but we've only been married 5 months, so we'll see!

I work w/ computer networks and data centers all day.   Its one of those jobs its on call 24/7, sorta have to drop what you do and run.  I can't seem to find a work balance and neither can DH.  Hence the stress part.

^^ this. DH and I made out a lot while we were dating, but that was before he was in the Navy working 12 hour shifts every day. Now it's hard to make time for sex because we are on opposite schedules! On the rare occasion we both have time off, we make a special effort to be intimate in ways OTHER than sex, and that helps.

  • My hubby and I usually make out every now and again .. our last makeout session was actually yesterday! LOL!

Open up to your husband and tell him that you would like to have more foreplay before the whole shabang and that he should listen to your needs. I'm sure he'll listen then. Good luck! Smile

  • Ten years married and we haven't grown out of it.

My H and I still make out. Not as much as before we were married, granted, but we still make time for it.
  • I think I understand where your husband is coming from, as I sort of "grew out of it". I used to love making out, but I no longer have the desire to do it. My husband asked me recently why we never make out anymore, and it honestly seemed like a strange question at first. Apparently he misses it, so now I make the effort some times even though it doesn't do anything for me. Until he brought it up, it never occurred to me that he still had a desire to make out.

For me, it has nothing at all to do with how much time we spend on foreplay or how busy/stressed I am in my life. We do plenty of other things for foreplay that I enjoy. Making out just seems sloppy and it doesn't turn me on at all. Now, if he wants to suck and lick other parts of my body... Smile

  • We've only been married for 2 months, and we never make out anymore.  Ever!  It's ridiculous.  We'll do oral and then get right to it.  Whatever happened to romantic foreplay??
  • Oh I hope that we never outgrow "making out".  It not only gets me in the mood, but it helps him too.  Great thing is that I married a guy who also loves foreplay.
  • We make out all the time, we routinely go to second base just watching tv!
