Weekend in Review:

Well, I didn't get to go Kayaking like I had hoped this weekend :(

Not only was it just way to hot but we got into an outdoor project and needed to finish it up.

We put down (the most inexpensive) grey patio stone along the back of our house where we keep the house and garbage can...it makes the area look 10x better. I was sick of seeing mud.

DH officially killed our grass so we will be ready for seeding on Labor Day. We also bought some trees for our property...can you tell we're in the midst of a yard makeover?!...we got a beautiful weeping willow, a maple, and one crepe myrtle (might go back and get some more of these).

We also watched all 4 episodes of Covert Affairs. DH thought it was cheesy...I love it, Auggie has total sex appeal!

How was your weekend?

Re: Weekend in Review:

  • i'm with you ... sick of this heat!

my weekend in review: DH got home Friday (he'd been gone for work all week) and we had our usually Friday night date (Pei Wei for dinner, then a movie at home). Saturday I went to a spin class, haircut & color, then went to a friends house for dinner that night. Sunday made some yummy breakfast, did a little taxfree shopping, went to friends pool, then out for Mexican with DH. And he left again this morning until Friday :(

  • Friday we relaxed and caught up on some DVR.

Saturday we spent the day getting everything ready for DH cousin's wedding (sometimes DH can be a pain leaving things to the last second), and went to the wedding, which had only enough chairs for 2/3rds of the guests (so we ended up standing), it was outside, bugs jumping everywhere, then the reception was at at church fellowship hall, which was also too small for the amount of guests, not nearly enough food, either.  But the bride was beautiful, and his cousin seemed happy.

Sunday was Carowinds, which was lots of fun, spent a good amount of time in the water park, so we didn't get too hot, and the lines were nice and short!

715 - Where did you buy your trees?  I'm wanting to buy some trees for our yard.  We have an acre lot that has a thin line of trees along two sides of the property, but NOTHING in the large back yard, and only one other tree on the lot beside the garage.  We need some trees back there!

  • My weekend was great! Friday night, DH & I went to our favorite beer & burger place and watched Avatar. Saturday, we went to the farmer's market & Lowes and then tackled some projects at home. We planted some ground cover in an area that getting washed away, and I planted some spinach & sugar snap peas. Then we watched Kick Ass. Sunday I went for a run, then we had lunch w/ friends. Then we did a grocery store run and I did some cooking, and then we chilled for the rest of the night. It was soooo nice!

DH's brother works for the city of GSO and they purchase everything here, great products and good prices. We were impressed with how healthy everything looked. (I just hope we can continue to keep our trees alive!) So I highly recommend it. The lady walked the whole lot with us explaining what to use where, answering our questions, etc....which was exactly what we needed. Beats Lowes any day!

  • Friday, we ordered pizza and watched Invictus (aka slowest movie ever).  I headed to bed early since I was exhausted from a long week!

Our bedroom has quite a lack of accessories, so I was anxious to get that room "finished".  So on Saturday we woke up and decided to head to Ikea.  DH was a trooper to make the trip to Charlotte and deal with way too many conversations about vases and candles.  But I love the stuff we got!!

Sunday we met with friends for brunch, took a nap, and ran some errands.  Last night I helped set up for Safety Awareness Week in our neighborhood that kicked off today.

What kind did you use?  I'm dying to put some down since our dog keeps digging right at the stairs off the deck.  Nothing like stepping down into a muddy hole!

Thanks for the information!  I bought a potted plant from Lowes quite a few years ago and it was infested with bugs, so I will not go back there for my plants!

We purchased them at Lowes, 12 in. x 12 in. concrete patio stone, they were $1.48 a piece....the worst part was leveling out the ground, we used a wide tooth rake. We did not do a layer of stone or gravel underneath, since we aren't making a real "patio" out of it we are ok with the settling that may occur.

Thanks for the info!  We just need something other than mud, especially since grass won't grow in this area.  I'll definitely be checking these out!

  • Friday night I had the Hoppers game with work that was up on the party deck.  Though it wasn't what I had envisioned, it was still a lot of fun.

Saturday morning I dragged myself out of bed early and went to the GSO farmers market.  I both like and dislike going so early to the market--like:  the crowds haven't gotten there yet so I get a pick of everything, plus the crowds haven't gotten there, plus when I drive (instead of riding) early on there are spots to be found.  Any later and I'd be SOL.  dislike: getting up so early on a Saturday morning.  Generally, I go early enough so that I am there before 7am.

After I got home from the market (it was a good haul this week!) Dh and I took a 40 mile bike ride along a relatively "new" route.  It was very, very good.  After that, DH and I went to Stameys for lunch (burn 1,000+ calories, put 500 back on EASY) but then DH and I actually rode our bikes to Stameys and then rode the rest of the way to UNCG to pick up our phone charger in DH's office.  Got home, we were both exhausted by now, took a "hour" nap (that really lasted and hour and 45 minutes) then drove down to Charlotte for the Charlotte Criterium.  Had a good time but was exhausted by the time we got home around midnight.

Slept late yesterday and just puttered around the house for awhile.  Started to organize our basement storage stuff and did lots of laundry.

But it was a good weekend, that's for sure!

  • My family came into town on Saturday. We just ordered pizza and relaxed, they were tired after a day of driving.

On Sunday we went to the Natural Science Center, the kids seemed to enjoy it. DH and I had never been, so it was nice to check it out.

It was a busy weekend but really nice to see family.
