Do my cakes really look that bad? I know the FSU cake does look super crappy but I also did that on 3 hours of sleep and was up until 4 am doing it. I can't believe how judgey people can be... not everyone starts out with cakes that look like they come straight out of a bakery. Someone did say something about my beer can cake looked like it was sh*tting and I actually laughed at that because its true. Of course my cakes aren't perfect, I just started making these back in June. I'm not the cake boss and I don't plan to be for a very very long time. I just don't see why some women are so rude and have to talk trash about other women. Maybe I am just being a huge hormonal baby (thank you aunt flo). I would like to see one of them ladies bake 10 sheet cakes, fill them stack them carve them, place fondant over them and paint them. Haha.
I could understand them talking about me if I was being BSC about something but I am just trying to enjoy the one and only hobby that has ever made me happy. Why flame me for that? Okay crazy, hormonal irrational vent over

I actually think those ladies are bored and have nothing better to do with their time...like trying to make a cake. They seriously need to get a life. And you are right, your cakes aren't perfect and you have to start somewhere to get good. I'd like to see what Cake Boss' cakes looked like when he first started out.

I think you were right to vent a little...I actually took a look at that thread, and while, sadly, I'm no longer surprised by the level of meanness and nastiness that some will display, I am surprised that someone had nothing better to do than to post a thread criticizing another person's hobby.
People who make it a point to go out of their way to tear others down (whether in word or deed), have deep self esteem issues. The only way that they can feel good about themselves is to try to tear others down, because that somehow elevates them to a higher level. It's all a mind game, though, because they are what they are - which is petty, mean-spirited and b**chy.
Don't be discouraged! It takes courage to share your art publicly, especially when you are still learning to how to perfect it - I think you are doing a great job - I wouldn't know where to begin decorating cakes like that! I know one way - swirl frosting on with the cake knife, and make those Betty Crocker looking big waves...lol

Wow, there is that element to the Nest boards that is so nasty. It makes me wonder how miserable these people are that they feel the need to bash strangers like this; really, they had to know you were going to see this thread, they really needed to write this? This is why I am only a lurker on most of the boards here.
Don't let them get to you. You just need to keep following your passion and enjoy what you're doing.

You would think that these women were just junior high kids instead of actual adults. and to think that they have children?!?! What terrible examples they are being.
Honestly, and sadly, I'm not at all surprised. No, your cakes aren't perfect, but they are a hell of a lot better than I (or any of those girls btw) could ever make. And they WILL be perfect when you've been doing this for, oh, I don't know,more than a month.
Shelli got super flamed on the Pets board for getting a puppy from a BYB (back yard breeder). I've learned that is a bad thing, but never knew that before going to those boards, and I'm sure she didn't either and was just excited about her new puppy! It's just boredom and the anonymity that makes people evil
Ditto all the previous posts! Those people are just very rude and I think your cakes look pretty good for a beginner, as Amanda said. Mine would look awful next to yours so I give you your props for doing so well and keeping at it! You will make them eat their words and remember we all love your cakes, and your friends and family do too!
