Heartbreaking....

I just found out (through FB of course) that a girl that is a year older than me has breast cancer and the doctor's has only given her about a year and a half to live. I keep thinking how did they miss this for so long that it has spread through out her body. She's really young and has 3 kids (one who is about M's age). She is currently at MD Anderson in Houston trying to see if they can prolong it for awhile longer.

It's just crazy that I saw her last year during Thanksgiving and she looked great and healthy. I'm thinking maybe the pregnancy maybe masked all the symptons?

  • Oh, that is so sad.
  • How awful for her and her family.

  • How terrible.  Sad I think I remember reading that pregnancy/breastfeeding can mask breast cancer because your breasts change so much that you aren't as likely to notice any lumps.
  • Sigh. That's really sad. I hope the best for her and her family. :(

That is really scary to think about. I know my mom told me that one of her best friends had her 3rd baby later in life (She was in her mid-40s) and it turned out that she had colon cancer during her pregnancy but all the pregnancy symptoms masked more severe symptoms. And she ended up dying 6 months after she had her baby.

  • That's awful, so sorry to hear this. Sad  My great-grandma, grandma, 2 great aunts, and 1 aunt are all breast cancer survivors--it's a scary disease and your friend will be in my thought and prayers.  Sounds like she's getting the best treatment possible.
  • Goodness that is sad. MD Anderson is a good hospital though so hopefully they can figure out something for her.
