For those of you who rent
Where do you look for places? Craigslist? Newspaper?
I feel like I'm running out of ideas of where to look. There are only so many places online and we need a place in NY before Sept. 1

I would do a google search for apartments/houses for rent in the area you are looking for. Sometimes if you can find the local paper, you may try looking in there. If you visit the area before you move, be sure to pick up one of those Apartment Finder guides and thumb through it for places.
There are a few girls who live in NY on this board, so maybe they would be able to help you as well just like Bella is doing.
i dont use craigslist. it's under permanent suspicion in my world.
but i use some of the other previously mentioned places. where ever i can find a good review that isnt written by the managers or lackies of a front office.

yes, be careful of craigslist.com
There are so many scams on there. I was looking on it for jobs once and then figured out really quickly that most of them were scams.
Yeah I hear ya about the craigslist thing. I've found my fair share of scams but I also found my current rental on there as well as my nanny job for a great family. I'm not sure about using it though for a place that I can't see in person.
Thanks for all the great advice
Ya'll stop hatin on Craigslist! I love me some Craigslist

You can also call realtors in the area and ask them if any of their clients are wanting to rent out their houses...that is how we found our rental house

I as well use craigslist...but would you like me to mail you the westchester pennysaver?
Lemme know
I used craigslist but then only really looked at places that had pictures and that were legitimate leasing companies. I also used padmapper.com. It works like google maps and accesses a bunch of renting websites (like craigslist, apartments.com, etc) so you greatly reduce the work you have to do. Good luck!
