Colorado B&B recommendations?

Mr. Spiderman's parents have a big anniversary coming up and the kids wanted to pool together to get them a nice weekend at a B&B.  Any suggestions for a great spot in Colorado?

Re: Colorado B&B recommendations?

  • Estes Park, fo sho! There are also lots of little towns around there that are cute and still close enough to Estes to be able to take a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park (a must see). Lyons is pretty close, no?

Steamboat springs would also be nice, but you really can't beat Estes, and it is much closer to an airport than Steamboat Springs.

  • Not a B&B, but The Stanley! I want to go. http://www.stanleyhotel.com/

  • The Stanley is creeptastic, for reals.  There is a reason why it inspired Stephen King.

Sorry, I have never been to a B&B.  Estes is a good suggestion.  It is a quick and easy drive from the city.

I also am a fan of Glenwood.  There is a huge hot springs pool there.   There is also a pretty nice spa too.  We stayed at the Lodge, but I have also stayed at the Colorado Hotel (the creep factor rivals the Stanley).  Of course, if they don't like to swim in water that is roughly the temperature of pee while being surrounded by the scent of rotten eggs, it might not be their style.

Didn't they used to live here?  Do you know what areas they liked?

  • They should just pool together and buy Vinny's condo. Then they can have a vacation home in Denver and Vinny can move. Win win!

  • They moved to CO a little less than a year ago, so they're still new to the area.  I don't think they've gotten to explore much of the state yet, so I think we could send them just about anywhere and have it be new.

MIL gets tired pretty quickly so I don't think they want to do any action/adventure type stuff.  They're more of the antiquing, reading, quietly enjoying themselves type.

  • I would still recommend places near Estes for those activities. And, if they were feeling adventurous, they could wander into the park. They can see a lot from the car or by walking just a short distance.

Vinny, is Glenwood Springs the place with the train ride? Maybe that would be fun for them.

  • Noisy has a fantastic idea.  They would love this place!  :)

Lisa, I think maybe you are thinking about Royal Gorge (that is the only train I can think of right now).  I haven't been there before, but we are talking about going soon.

Just because I am a city girl, I would think it would be pretty fun to get them a fancy room at the Brown Palace downtown.  They could do high tea, go to the spa, go to the Champagne Sunday Brunch, and just wander around the city.  They could browse around the Denver Pavilions (an outdoor mall), walk around LoDo (really cute historical buildings, little bistro restaurants - just make sure they get out by sundown on Friday and Saturday nights - it's amateur hour for bar hoppers).

And, huh Cali?  They just moved here?  I think it is time for you to visit the ol' MIL and FIL.

  • I have actually stayed at the Brown Palace Hotel. Though I did not visit the spa or have champagne brunch. Nonetheless, it is a cool, old, non-creepy hotel. They could go visit the tattered cover bookstore while they are in the city.
