Calling all cooks...

I need your help. I've had an eye round in the the freezer for months! I never have the time to make a nice roast beef.  I was attempting to find a recipe to do something with it in the crock pot this week.

Any suggestions?

Re: Calling all cooks...

  • It sounds crazy, but throw a packet of onion soup mix and a can of coke over it and turn it on!   Very easy and super yummy.  Temperature would just depend on how long you need to cook it for (low if cooking it all day; high if you are starting the roast mid afternoon or later.)

that actually sounds quite interesting! i think i'll give it a try!!!!!! :) Thanks so much.  I could probably do mashed potatos on the side once i get home after work.

I did that recipe but without the beer busicuts.  It was pretty yummy!!  In fact, if we weren't so broke this week, I think I'd have to make it tomorrow!! haha

  • I've only attempted a roast once and that didn't turn out too well.... lol

  • I haven't made a roast but I don't think I would want a crock pot on all day heating up my apartment in the summer.  I would probably try to save it for the fall.

Oh I know it is.  I'm just cheap and don't want to paying to cool the apartment and warm it at the same time. Embarrassed I'm sure it will be a great meal though!

  • the onion soup packet and coke sounds interesting...

I've done the onion soup packet with some water, or just some cut up veggies (onions, celery and carrots) with a few cups of water or beef froth and let that baby simmer in the crock pot...and you can add potatoes, too, and either pull them out for mashing later, or just serve as is.  then, my mom always took out the meat and the chunky veggies and made gravy from the drippings and broth that was made.  i would suggest low and slow cooking since eye round can be kinda tough. oh...and you don't necessarily need to worry about defrosting it if you're gonna be throwing it in the crock pot - that will add to some of the needed moisture too.
