"Sweating" Air Ducts?

Our house is old, and the AC system is, too. Last summer we had several brown spots show up on our bedroom ceiling below where the air ducts run. Research led me to believe that that the air ducts were "sweating" condensation. We didn't find any leaks. We just painted over the spots.

It's happened again this year. In one place, it's molded a little bit. In the other, it's a totally different room and I have no idea if there's attic over that area or if we could get to the air duct.

It it safe to just spray bleach on the mold and paint over the spots? Is there an (extremely) affordable way to prevent this from happening? Should I be worrying that mold is growing between the walls in places I can't see??

Re: "Sweating" Air Ducts?

  • I have a great recommendation for an hvac guy, actually from another nesties friend. But I have referred him to a client of mine and they were awesome and awesome rates. I never like to mess with mold or leaks unless I know for sure! You can email me at findyourwayhomeinaustin at gmail dot com if you want his info. They may even be able to consult over the phone, who knows.
