This stands out to me as a reason why the fact that it's a field trip shouldn't be an issue.
As is the case with all field trips, parents had to give their permission and could choose to opt out of the trip. Two families did.
The quotes from the kids about marriage are so cute and it's sad that it's being used as fodder for the opposing side.
Re: CA ladies re: prop 8
Okay...this was a horrible, horrible PR move. This plays exactly into the Yes on 8 hands. School kids leaving school to attend a same sex wedding is their nightmare realized. Oy ve. Could they have picked a worse time to do this? This will be talked about in anti-gay-marriage circles for years to come.
And as an aside, I don't support taking kids out of school to attend any weddings...same sex or hetero.
I LOVE the fear/intimidation tactics I'm hearing in the ads. "IT will FORCE your children to learn about gay marriage in school!"
Really?
I don't recall even learning about hetero-marriages while I was in school.
I call Shenanigans -- especially on the jerk @ss law professor from Pepperdine

Agreed that it's horrible timing and plays into Yes on 8's hands, but it's not like it's just any lesbian wedding, it's their own teacher!
It's so ridiculous what they will come up with, and horribly offensive. Save the children? Seriously? Cause they might catch the gay?
I am so emotionally tied up against this proposition right now it's bad. I just can't understand how one person says to another, I don't want my children to learn that you exist and have equal rights.
I gave $ again and I really should do phone calls, but I think I might go postal on someone. I just want it to be Nov. 4th.
That's what I keep saying!
One of the biggest arguments from the anti-gay crowd is how will this affect schools...I just read yesterday that some law profs largely denounced this line of reasoning saying that there is nothing to suggest that school children will be taught anything differently under the supreme court ruling. This school sponsored field trip has just trounced the law profs and given fuel to crazy zealots' fire.
Even if I don't support such field trips, still, could they have at least waited until the prop failed before they did this sort of PR stunt? Given that the polls are so very precarious and we are so close to the election? Geeessh!
This was a little gift to the yes on 8 crowd. Thanks! Thanks very much.
