True Blood

So I've been seeing all of the hype on True Blood from my friends on FB, including several of my May Nesties.  :)  So I asked HH to put it on the list for Netflix. I've now seen the first four episodes from season 1. (I'm a little aggravated that the disks from Netflix only have 2 episodes on them.)

In case you forgot what season 1 was like, the end of episode 4 had Jason in the ER with Tara getting the blood drained out of his junk cuz he swallowed a whole vial of V-juice after he was arrested [again] for Maryann's death (I think that's her name - the dark-haired waitress from Merlotte's).  Tara and Sam slept together, out of convenience, the night that Maryann was murdered. Oh yeah - and this is where we find out that Sam has a thing for Maryann. The last scene is him rolling around in her bed, smelling the sheets & pillows. WTF!  Where did that come from?!

Anyhow, I do want to know more about what's happening with the whole Sam & Maryann dynamic. So I will be watching the next disk. I just hope it picks up soon.

I am not absolutely loving it though. I'm disappointed that it's not all that I can think about until I can see the next episode. Is it because it's a little slow at the beginning? Am I missing something? Is there more to come?

Re: True Blood

  • I sucked it up and bought season 1 & 2 of True Blood on dvd in a nice set. We dont have HBO so I watch the episodes for free the monday after online. You will get addicted.

I watched season 1 & 2 of Dexter on my instant que and got hooked. Now i have season 3 on the que for th email and I'm beside myself to get it. It can be frustrating only having 2 episodes at a time, i feel ya

  • The series is OK but the books are MUCH better.  If you are a reader I recommend the books.  The series follows the books pretty close for the first book but then they begin differ a lot.
  • Didn't know there were books!  I just finished up a couple of books while on our honeymoon a couple weeks ago, so now I know what I can pursue next. Thanks!!

And I do think the fact that I can only watch 2 episodes at a time is playing into it.  Because I am completely hooked on a series that we could watch the first 2 seasons on instant queue and I think I got spoiled.

Ditto this.  The books are WAAAAAAY better.  Look them up.  They're the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.  I've only watched through the first two seasons.  It irritates me a little to see some of the changes that they've made, but it's still good.  I'll get Season 3 on Netflix as soon as it comes out!!

  • trust me-- you'll get addicted! we LOVE the show! still have to read the books though
  • I watched the first few episodes, and I thought it was good, but the books are much better. The TV show was a little too explicit and dark for my taste. Reading about things has never bothered me nearly as much as seeing/hearing them, for some reason, and I think the books are less raw, anyway.

The first book wasn't my favorite of the series, but now I'm totally hooked.

Oh, and I started one of Charlaine Harris's other series this weekend and read Grave Sight, which was pretty good, too.

YAY!!!  I'm so glad to hear you say that!!!  The Harper Connelly series is next up after I'm done with the Sookie books!

IMHO could this be the opinion of a reader first viewer after?  Yes the books follow a different storyline.. and being a viewer first reader after, I appreciate the alternative storylines.  Plus... no LaLa?  He MAKES the show!

  • Love True Blood, love Dexter! True Blood is awesome, though this season is pretty f-ed up!

Anyone watch Nurse Jackie? Weeds (starting again soon)?
