I'm new to this board; just thought I'd say hi. DH and I need to meet more people around here! Both of us are transplants to Cincy and finding friends our age is tricky. We're in that in-between stage where we don't have kids but going out and doing shots all night and then driving drunk isn't our idea of fun either.
Anyway, we're east siders and newlyweds. And we're nice people, if a bit dorky.
Warning
No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
Re: Hi everyone :)
Hi and welcome!
It's common for transplants to feel it's challenging to meet new people but I think Cincinnatians are very friendly and welcoming (esp the ladies on this board!). It's just a little bit harder to get to know people when you're in this phase of life, I think. Hopefully you'll find some friends on here, through work, and through hobbies that you enjoy. Do you have any hobbies/interests b/c we may be able to reco some ways to meet others with similar interests.
We're Cincy natives and all our family lives here so we have a nice built in support system but I know what it feels like to feel a bit out of place. We bought a house in Mason where nearly every person has kids and we're just not in that phase of life yet! I have to say though that once we got our beagle cutie Toby I felt like we fit in a *little bit* better b/c at least we had a furbaby :P.

Where are you on the east side and where are you from?
There are a bunch of east siders here, so you can just post a general neighborhood (madeira, oakley, etc.) and there is bound to be at least one or two people nearby.
DH & I have kids, but we still want/need to meet more people to just hang out with on our kid-free nights.
Thanks everybody!!
As far as hobbies go, I've gotten addicted to running! I'm not super fast but I'm training for the USAF half marathon in September right now. Goal: survival. My husband runs with me sometimes but he's been somewhat injury prone lately. Right now it's an undetermined knee issue that he won't see the doctor for because he's a stubborn man.
He plays golf...he taught me to play but I'm pretty horrible at it! I wouldn't mind playing with others as long as someone else is at my level! And we like camping, concerts, going to sporting events. He'd actually be content to stay home almost all the time, but I get cabin fever easily so I drag him out a lot.
@steve&heather -
Originally I'm from Lima. I've moved all around the general area - got my bachelors in Toledo and my masters from the University of Dayton. I moved here from Dayton because I'd met my husband (then boyfriend) and we were tired of the hour drive every weekend! He's originally from Connecticut; moved for work and has been here for about 5 years.
We live in Newtown right now. Looking to buy a house in the next year or so - probably around Anderson, Milford, somewhere in there.
You are def not alone.
We are both so busy with working and school but I'm generally home more often than not by myself b/c H works all night. I hate to admit this but I'm still in the stage of trying to figure out WHAT I like to do. Not knowing that makes it hard to meet new people.
I moved here from Dayton b/c DH (then BF) and I had just got engaged and were tired of the drive too. I got my bachelors from UD eons ago (I graduated in '98) :-)
There are some nice houses in Newtown too.
I know there are ladies here who run, maybe you guys could all get together? (since you said your H doesn't always run with you).
Thanks for the warm welcome, guys!
I've considered joining a running group but I'm so afraid of being "the slow one". I'm not THAT slow but I'm slower than a lot of experienced runners. They say pace doesn't matter, but I still don't want to slow anyone down. Plus the training groups cost money. Plus my work schedule is so variable that I really can't guarantee being available at any one time every week. But if someone else runs at my speed (10:00-11:30 mile, depending on weather and distance) and I can get over my own neuroses, I may be open to running with someone....
Keep your fingers crossed that the weather is bearable for the Newtown 5k this Saturday; I'm running in it. Did something screwy to my ankle although not bad enough not to run on it, but I'm a little worried about it.
There are some nice houses in Newtown, but it seems like everything here is either 80,000 or 400,000. No in-betweens. It's a bizarre little village.
Welcome!
I love your description of the tricky age. We are with you
. From what part of Connecticut is your husband? My husband's family is from Stamford.
You might find The Runners' Club of Greater Cincinnati website helpful. It lists a variety of local running groups and lists local parks that work well for training runs. The RCGC also offers pace groups for most major races in the area - look for their signs at races.

Mojo Running is in the northern suburbs, so you might never go there, but you should find their race calendar useful.

The Running Spot has several locations, but the original (O'Bryonville) is still my favorite.
