Re: *Muffin's Mom*
The zoo is pretty great, and free, so you can't beat that. You can even avoid paying for parking if you're willing to walk from the farther lots. We used to live right by the zoo, so we've gone a lot in the the past 5 years or so. If it's super hot, you can cool off with the penguins.
I would also recommend the Anheuser Busch brewery tour. It's really neat, and free - again! DH and I have done it 4 or 5 times.
As far as restaurants, I would recommend "the Loop" area on Delmar Ave. There you will find...
-- Blueberry Hill (owned by Chuck Berry) - fantastic burgers. Get the soft cheddar cheese, it's great! http://www.blueberryhill.com/
-- Fitz's - a rootbeer brewery. You can watch the root beer being bottled while you eat! Plus, it's served in a frosty mug! http://www.fitzsrootbeer.com/
-- Pi - a pizzeria. There's a "St. Louis style" pizza that I would recommend staying away from. Pi is more traditional, plus they have a great deep dish! http://www.restaurantpi.com/
My favorite restaurant in all of St. Louis is Pappy's Smokehouse. I love the pulled chicken with their sweet bbq sauce. And I LOVE their potato salad. If it's a weekend, I would suggest going at an off-time, like a very late lunch or a very early dinner. They close when they sell out of meat each day, so a late dinner isn't usually an option. Ever since they were on Food Network and Travel Channel about a year or so ago, their lines have been crazy long. But it's SO worth it.

I know you didn't really ASK for this much info, but I love our city, so let me know if you want any more suggestions!
