Re: SB

  • I downloaded a couple for our road trip next week using OverDrive. It was kind of a PITA to get them to load on the phone. But that wasn't what you were asking. :-)

  • Very rarely.

I have Overdrive on my phone but the selection of mp3 books on Overdrive is pretty crappy.  I tried to struggle through two Jen Lancaster books but I had to turn them off.  Blech.

There is a way to convert WMA files in itunes, but it''s tricky with DRM and you can't do the direct download like you can with mp3.  I think there is a way to make it work on the iPod but not the iPhone.

I mostly listen on CDs and to WMA files on my computer

  • I'm regretting opening this post.  I think my brain just exploded
  • Kristen, I find that it's much easier to browse on my computer and add them to my eBookbag with my computer, and then sign on with my phone and checkout.  I don't know if that changes depending on your library or not.

  • I finally figured out how to download them on my PC and then transfer to the phone. Annoying. the State of Ohio has an e-book program in partnership with the libraries and it has some decent options but that OverDrive software isn't very userfriendly.

  • hmmm. i am not liking these answers. I jut got an ipod touch and one of the reasons was for audiobooks. My current mp3 player I can't figure out how to save my place in a book and then listen to music and then go back to the book.

  • I think they are easy to listen to once you  get them on the touch, and it will save your place if you have them in the audiobook category, just downloading the free library versions is a little tricky for a non-tech nerd like myself.

  • Well, if you don't mind paying monies, you can buy them on itunes or at audible.com.

Download the overdrive app and check.  I didn't see a lot I was interested in but I just downloaded the app a few weeks ago and I've been kept busy by some other ones I had.  There are a lot of books available.  But if you have a certain book in mind and you go searching, you'll be disappointed a lot of the time.  If you just say, I'm in the mood for romance/suspense/nonfiction, you'll be fine.

  • It's really not that hard once you figure it out.  If you prefer to do it on the computer it will be pretty easy.  I think you'll just drag & drop into itunes.  itunes is pretty user friendly.

    This is what I do:

Browse on the computer and find mp3 books I want (on mine you can browse by mp3 and then category), then click Add to My eBookBag or Add to my eHolds List, depending on if it's available.  Then, I get on my phone and open Safari.  I have a bookmark to the overdrive site and open it and go to my bookbag, then checkout.  When you click download, it automatically opens up the Overdrive App and adds the book to your library.  Then you click on it and it will say something like "0 out of X parts are downloaded, do you want to download them now?", tap yes, and it will download the book.
