Moms of kids, dieticians, doctors, anyone come in...

Monk has been frustratingly picky about food lately...I cannot get him to eat anything with protein. Corn and potatoes and toddler puffs are all he will eat. He needs to eat something other than that, but I cannot figure out how to get him to eat some more diverse foods. Any suggestions of what I can give him that I might get a chance of him eating???

  • Will he eat Peanut butter?  There's protein in that.  What about pasta?  Mac and cheese is a favorite of my guy.  If he'll eat that, start mixing in veggies, even pureed or baby jarred ones to help round out his diet.

  • He was eating peanut butter but lately he doesnt even want that. Does not like mac n cheese. Like all the things he was eating for me he doesnt want to touch it now...he used to eat cheese raviolis and stuff...but not anymore. It makes me crazy since he was eating so many different things then all of a sudden nothing.

  • My nephews went through phases like this. Camden for a while would eat nothing but "wuggets" (chicken nuggets)  he even ate them for breakfast.

I've been going through this same thing with Charli. She used to eat anything and everything and now will only eat a few things. I just give her a plate of whatever it is that I've made for lunch/dinner and make her sit with it in front of her while me and Skyler eat .. and then after she takes at least one bite (even if she spits it out) I will make her something else. I just want her to get used to at least trying what is put in front of her.

Last night I made her 3 different dinners and then she ended up eating 2 things of yogurt and that was it.

I guess my advice is to keep offering the things he doesn't like and maybe get creative with the few things that he will eat. And I've been known to add carnation instant breakfast to the girls milk if I feel like they are missing out on protein and stuff.

  • Cottage cheese has protein. Both the kids have loved it since we started table food.
  • My baby's a picky eater too... What about something w/ a shreaded chicken, or like if you shread it in w/ his potatoes.  I have to hide things in w/ his fruit all the time.  I even buy the baby foods from time to time just to make sure he's getting enough good stuff and because we run out of variety.  What about sliced cheese, green beans, bannana's.. hmm trying to think of things that Mason eats mostly.

  • I just go with whatever J wants to eat, the kid won't eat meat besides hot dogs. His diet mostly consists of scrambled eggs, PB&J, grilled cheese, hot dogs, yogurt, various kinds of crackers and pretty much any fruit besides blueberries. Although he mostly eats bananas and strawberries for fruit. He also refuses to drink milk.

I usually offer him what we eat, sometimes he eats it, sometimes he throws it to the dog. I have found he is more willing to try and eat things if I give him a fork.

  • I remember before Davis was born thinking, he is not going to be the kid that eats the same things every single day.  Guess what??  He is that kid!!!  LOL  So funny how you judge before your a parent.  Anyways, I figure if he wants a banana and oatmeal every morning so be it, at least he is eating something nutritious.  Same thing for lunch and dinner, usually it is nuggets, a casing dog from the deli, turkey breast or grilled cheese, with either peas or asparagus and a fruit. I also give him mac & cheese, yogurt, mashed potatoes, he loves fries baked in the oven.  We do offer him what we eat for dinner, sometimes he will eat it, most of the time he won't.  He really hates anything with spaghetti type sauce, he refuses it, he won't even eat pizza.  We also have the egg allergy to deal with so sometimes our meals contain egg so those are a no-no for him.

See if the library has the cookbook called, "The Sneaky Chef"  I've heard great things about it.
