What to do with a 1 year old???

DH is traveling for work and the baby and I decided to tag along.  The hotel is near the Mall of America and I was wondering if you ladies had any suggestions of things to do with a one year old (He turns one later this month).  I figured the zoo and hit the pool up at the hotel.  Any other suggestions for an out of stater that hasn't the slighest clue what to do with a one year old for three days in Minneapolis?  TIA.

Re: What to do with a 1 year old???

  • Will you have a car or not?

  • Yes, we plan on taking our car so I will be able to drive places (though since I don't know the cities that well, I prefer to keep within like 30-40 minutes of the hotel/mall.
  • The zoo is super easy to get to from the mall. One thing that could be fun is to take the light rail to Minnehaha Park. If you're outdoorsy, it's a great place to walk around and hang out.

There's also the Children's Museum and the Science Museum in DT St. Paul. Those are both fun.

  • The zoo is great. also if you will be here on a Tuesday or Thursday there are some great out door concerts in Edina that your LO might enjoy, Also on Tuesday's there are Toddler Tuesdays at MOA from 10-noon.

Here is the link to the Edina outdoor concerts

  • If it's a crappy rainy outdoor day you could always go to Rosedale, just 15-20 minutes away.  It's a good mall with an *EXCELLENT* play area that I've spent many hours at with my wee ones.  The play area is next to the JCPenny and it's free.  myrosedale.com or you can ask the hotel front desk for directions (it's not hard to get to at all from Mall of America area.)  If you stick around Roseville the new library just opened and it's got tons of little kid things in two separate play areas.

Otherwise just walking around lakes, taking the lightrail to downtown Minneapolis... baby boys seem to love moving things :)

  • I just heard today about a bookstore type place in south Minneapolis that has live animals (cats, bunnies, etc) wandering about. I wish I could remember the name - it sounded so cool.

That book store is called Wild Rumpus. It is really cool but DON"T go on Monday's for "toddler Story time" it is NUTS. we have gone 2 times & will not be going back (maybe will try it again next year but that is still up in the air) The book store is really cool.
