My 2 years is finally up and I get to come out of the dark age with phones... I have Verizon... Any suggestions of what to get?

Mine came up 2 weeks ago and I still can't decide what to get! (I have Verizon too). I really want a droid or blackberry but I'm def not thrilled with the $30 extra a month. My plan's pretty cheap, and that would almost be a 50% increase! Yuck!
I NEED to get something soon though! If I talk on mine for half an hour or so or spend an hour texting, the dies on me.
i dont have at&t, never have, BUT i do hear they ended their "unlimited" data plan because the iphone/itouch/ipad users were "data hogging" or something, so anything anyone else got was slow and low bandwith- so! with that said, you'll have to pay a price for data plans with at&t for sure now, but you might actually get what you pay for if you're not an igadget user... or so they predict.
before this i would've never considered at&t because they catered to apple users and screwed over their other customers to do so, IMO.
i'm weary of this stuff because i read a rumor that Tmobile is getting the iphone- and their data plans are through the roof for my budget considering how much i don't use the phone. i believe if they're contracting with apple the options for other brands of (more affordable) smart phones will go down. at least in the US.

If you are looking at BB, definitely get one that has the track pad instead of the track ball. I currently have the Pearl (track ball) and I'm so ready for September to get here so I can get a new BB. I'll probably end up getting the Curve.
That's what is holding me back.. I'm not thrilled about adding $30 a month (plus when H gets a new phone, another $30) to a phone bill. I don't NEED the data phones, but they'd be nice to have. And there's really not much choice anymore.

I have Verizon and have had the BB curve for about a year and a half, I love having access to email, internet, whatever I need. I want the new Droid though. My brother was out here for the wedding and his Droid blew my BB out of the water in terms of speed and capability.
I used to think why would I ever need a smart phone...now I do not know what I would do without one. It was great when I was traveling for work, I did not have to sit @ home waiting for emails, I could be doing business from the beach.
