I hate nickel!!!
No, not nickels.. I've got no problem with 5 cents. 
I'm allergic to nickel, and normally, I have trouble with some of my earrings or necklaces after a few hours, but the past week, I've started to get a serious rash from my belly button jewelry! ARGH!! I was wearing one with a dangly seahorse, and noticed the seahorse's nose looked worn and I was getting a rash there. No prob, I thought! So I changed it out, and now I have a rash ALL under my belly button and today I noticed it's even INSIDE my dammn belly button! It itches like hell, I've been scratched it raw. But I refuse to take my jewelry out. I don't want the dammn hole to close!
OK, just had to vent. Thanks. :-D I hate it. I hate this allergy. Everything I buy that's "nickel-free" is bullshiit!! After wearing it a while the COATING they have on it wears off and suddenly I discover there's nickel underneath!! Even all my sterling silver stuff must only be PLATED. Stupid stupid allergy.

i have a nickel allergy too- not quite as severe. an aunt gave me titanium earrings once, saying there was no nickel- i never had a reaction- maybe it's something to look in to?

Nobs - titanium? Is that what guys sometimes get their wedding bands out of? I don't know I've ever seen (of course, there's a lot I don't NOTICE!) titanium jewelry. Is it expensive? that's the other problem. I LOVE wearing jewelry, but I can't afford to pay 100 bucks for a simple pair of earrings. Boo.
JB - I *thought* all my belly jewelry WAS stainless, but perhaps not?? I got most of it from hot topics actually. So maybe I'll head in there and check things out. I guess if all else fails, I'll go the preggo ring route! (and good to know they make those! I have wondered what I'll do if I get preggo, cuz I refuse to let this hole close!!!)
I inspected this thing earlier and it's pretty gross looking with a red nasty rash INSIDE my bb and all below it. I'm gorgeous right now.
Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I'll hopefully do something this weekend to get it all healed up. I'm guessing it won't magically do it on its own. Oh, and I don't need calamine lotion. hehe 
If I take the nickel off my skin, the rash goes away within a few days.

One of the PPs suggested going to a piercing place to buy jewelry... I definitely second that. They'll actually sell you real stainless steel jewelry. For some reason, I have a feeling Hot Topic doesn't know jack about piercing jewelry.

I only know about the preggo belly rings since one of my BMs (very good friend from college) got hers pierced when she was a freshman and she was also determined to not let it close up when she got pregnant. She delegated finding preggo lady belly rings to me. lol I was surprised that such things exist, but I suppose there's a market for everything.

I am allergic to nickel too. Someone told me that once the coating wears off paint it with clear nail polish and do that every few weeks and the nickel will not get to your skin...I have heard it works, I just threw my stuff away that I was allergic to. I am allergic to silver as well.
Try hydrocortisone cream and benadryl cream.
JB - good to know about the pregnancy bb rings - my SIL will be thrilled to hear this.
