Help with boyfriend's birthday, please.
Let me preface this by saying I'm not big on birthdays. Literally until this year, I had barely celebrated mine. But my wonderful boyfriend went all out. He bought me an iPod and Nike+ and took me on a surprise trip to the St. Croix River Inn with a fancy schmancy dinner (he even called my boss to get the days off for me).
So now, his birthday is looming. What do I do? He's a lawyer - he loves theatre, but we go all the time, so that's a little mundane. I could do the B&B thing again, but isn't that copycat?
I realize this is vague - but I'm lost. Any suggestions?
Re: Help with boyfriend's birthday, please.
Well, I did a surprise party for my husband (someone posted a similar question below and I wrote all about the party). I thought it was a great and my husband loved it. However, I can see how planning something like that might feel copy-cat like. It sounds like he just took you though; you could plan a party and bring his loved ones to him.
Otherwise, maybe you could take him on a date to Annona Gourmet. I have not been yet, but I bought my husband a gift certificate for the store because he likes to think of himself as a foodie too. It has a bunch of fine oils, pasta, sauces. It is in St Anthony. I guess the place is the largest store for gourmet oils in the state and there is a tester for every oil (things like black cherry balsamic which goes on ice cream?). You can play around picking out your favorite stuff and then bring it home to make a romantic dinner at home for the two of you.
Also, there is a section at the Twins Stadium that has really nice (reclining I think) chairs and you get access to a special room with lots of free food and beer. I think it is something like a $20,000 season ticket holder area. The last time I went to a game I sat next to a fellow who was talking about how cool the food room was. I asked him how he had seen it (since he was sitting next to me and not in this fancy section). He said that people sell one game tickets for them all the time. Maybe you could score some of those tickets.
What would he think about some fancy/private cooking classes or something like a winery/brewery tour and then an overnight/weekend stay at a nice resort on a lake?
Or a long weekend foodie trip to somewhere like Vegas?
I was just at the Cannon River Vineyard. I know they do wine tasting and the building you do it in looks pretty nice?.but I specifically went to the vineyard so I didn?t do the wine tasting. They were talking to our group and mentioned that they have two grape picking programs, one where you can come pick some table grapes and the other where you are a ?wine worker? for the day, help pick the grapes and enjoy lunch up at the pavilion/barn thing. The view is amazing. He said people liked it because they got to purchase bottles of wine they helped make (they will tell you when the wine with your grapes is ready) The view is great. I think this happens later in the fall?I couldn?t quickly find any information on their website, but you could call if you are interested.

I went to Annona Gourmet yesterday. It was neat....but not as neat as I had hoped. My husband had fun and will likly shop there again, but the biggest shop in MN is not all that big.
