So Nolan started rice cereal last night. We waited so long because his Physical therapist wanted to wait and she said he could start now and to put him in the bumbo instead of his high chair because he will have to work to hold his head up by eating.
Well i dont know what I am doing wrong but he runs from the spoon. He hates the spoon and will arch his back so then he is bending over backwards in the bumbo to get away from the spoon. I tried a different spoon today and the same thing happened. Now if i put it in a bottle he will eat it. He already has a rice supplement in his food because of his reflux so I dont think it is the rice, but maybe?? Help!!! Do i just need to give him more time to get use to this but I hate seeing him wreck his neck more by running from it.
Re: Need mommy help
I honestly don't remember our adventures with rice. I know the first time he had sweet potatoes, that was a battle.
Are you mixing the rice with water, milk or forumla? Maybe that has something to do with it. I'm pretty sure David ate it more often if I mixed it was BM.
Maybe try a different brand, although one would think rice cereal is all the same.
Have you tried letting him play with a spoon first, so it's not as foreign to him. Letting him chew on it a bit and see? Also maybe try mixing up the consistency of the cereal.
Yeah we thought of the spoon thing last night. He will play with both spoons and he will eventually put it in his mouth as he does with everything now but when I do it or Nick does it forget it. Thats a good idea about the consistency and the brand. I will def. try that Thanks Mel & meredith.
Rice cereal is pretty bland, I mix Jack's with Gerber apple juice or the stage 1 apples. I've used the Earths Best brand with both of them, I also use their food, taste tasting theirs to Gerber I liked the taste better (sick I know) Cate would thrust hers out and it took a good two weeks to get it down pat, Jack on the other hand took to it right away but the kid loves to eat, he peas last night for the first time and didn't even flinch at the taste, he cried when they ended.
I would sweeten the deal for him, make it taste better than the formula. I know it's frustrating but stick with it, he'll get it sooner or later and it will make the transition to food so much easier.
It may. Does he try the inital spoon full and nothing afterwards?
You may just have a stubborn guy on your hands. Just keep with it and he'll eventually give in.
