So frustrated right now- just need to vent...

I got home last night from work to see that I had received an email from the principal of a school that I had applied to asking if I would be interested in interviewing Wednesday August 11 after 1pm (read: Less than 24 hours after said email was sent).  I immediately responded stating that I could be there at 1:30 and would confirm this in the morning.  Well, this morning, I got an email back telling me that all of their interview slots had been filled and that they'd contact me if they decide to interview more people.

So right now I am pissed that they didn't call to schedule interviews like normal people, because if she had actually called at 2:30 when she sent the email, I could have given her an immediate response and actually would have an interview for today, rather than wait until I could check my email at home at 4:30, making me miss out on my chance.  Ugggg!!!  It's a job that would have been perfect for me too- I student taught at the district, I've subbed there several times over the last year, and I enjoy the school and the staff.  So lame.

  • That stinks :(

It does seem weird that she would e-mail rather than call you.

  • That is 100% crappy and you are totally right to be frustrated. I guess you just have to keep your fingers crossed that they interview more candidates. Hope they do or another job interview comes along.

  • That sucks - sorry Kate. :-(
  • I don't know if this is inappropriate or not, but it was my first reaction.

Can you call and talk to her? Tell her that you replied right away and cleared your schedule for the interview and that it's very disheartening to get that kind of response this morning. Maybe she can squeeze in another interview (you) or call you if one cancels?

    I'm so sorry...

  • I'd be furious. If she wanted an immediate answer she should have just called you. Why did she ask you about the interview in an email if they weren't going to give you any time to respond. Sorry.

Unfortunately, I am waaaaaayyy too much of a chicken to actually call.  I replied to her email, thanked her for letting me know, and pleasantly mentioned that I would love to have the opportunity to meet with her hiring committee if they do decide to interview more people, so hopefully she'll see that I am truly interested in the position?

  • That would be very frustrating!  Just wait outside and clock someone over the head who is going in for an interview!  Guess a time slot just opened up!  hee hee!!

Stupid nest ate the post and then posted it anyway after I wrote the duplicate post (below).

I'm a total chicken about things like this too, but I do agree with the PP that a phone call would be good in this situation.  Just to really show your interest and set yourself apart from all the other potential hires that just gave up when they got that email.  I think you'll stand out in their minds more if you call.

  • That is absolutely ridiculous! I'm so sorry!

  • I just don't see how it's that hard to pick up a phone and call someone for an interview.  I got an email asking if I would like to interview for a position and the whole note was just extrememly poorly worded and awkward.

I don't understand why people think that this is a professional and acceptable way to contact people for interviews.  Ugh.

Fortunately, I got a call from another school to set up an interview for tomorrow (what's up with all the day-before-the-interview call??), and they worked around my schedule for me.  My day is going much better than it started at!

  • (what's up with all the day-before-the-interview call??)

I know! I once thought the same thing...it was how I got my current job.  The principal called me at 9 am on a Sunday (?!?!) and wanted to set up interviews for the next day.

    Good Luck with the interview!

    Good Luck with the interview!

Principals have school starting in less than 3 weeks and workshops starting in 2 weeks and typically new teacher orientation NEXT week - so THAT's why they are calling and need people to be available for an interview the following day.

OP - sorry that happened but it's happened to me and lots of other teachers too. The fact is that schools get hundreds and hundreds of applications and they NEED to find someone fast. They might offer interviews to 15 but only have 12 time slots. The first 12 to call/e-mail get the interview times. It sucks but at this point in the summer it's hard for them to just wait on you or rearrange their time table so that it works for you (and everyone else too).

Good for you for getting another interview and good luck!!!

  • At least you're getting interviews.

This is only the second one I've had for an actual teaching job this year, but I am grateful for any chance I can get.

I saw in an earlier post that you're got yourself a LTS job for now.  Where is it at?  Feel free to pm me if you want.

  • I don't know who would think it's ok to email an interview request either. Very strange.

I hope the other interview works out!

    PM sent.
  • Don't lose sleep over it Kate.....I mean, would you want to work for a principal that isn't good with communication?  An email for an interview is ridiculous.

    Good luck!
