UGGG! My email account was compromised.

? I don't really know what to call it. I have 20+ emails that say undeliverable from CL. I click on it and it's my email sending out emails to other people w/ a link in it! (I didn't click the link obviously) Everyone in my email box got the emails.

I know a lot of people use CL ... did this happen to you? Luckily Ron got one so we were able to open the email and see what was going on. On his email there were 3 "regular" people from my contact list and probably 20+ people w/ CL emails. Grrrr .... There were about 20+ emails like this "I sent out" that came back, I can't imagine the ones that actually went out to people. Anyone selling anything right now? You can see if I sent you an email. :o)

One good thing is that it is not my main email address so I don't think any of my friends and family are on that list, but I do belong to blogs, mystery shops I perform are under this address + all my sweepstakes, instant wins I do. Grrrr ....

I changed my password right away but I don't know what else I can do.

Re: UGGG! My email account was compromised.

  • This happened to me a few weeks ago.  A friend that I'm actually not as close with anymore emailed me and let me know.

I ended up cleaning out my inbox.  I've been meaning to do that.  As well as cleaning out my "sent" folder. (I never had cleaned it, there were emails from college to present day in there!!)

I went through my address book and cleaned it up.

Then used numbers and letters in my new email password. (upper and lowercase)

  • This happened to me a few months ago...with the email account I use for my job searches and job contacts, etc.  A viagra or cialis (can't remember which) went out to everyone in my address book and deleted everything in my sent box.  That was just awesome.

And this is exactly what I ended up doing.

  • Since I enter blog contests I guess that is what pissed me off most. A couple of the blogs I belong to marked my email as spam and it was sent back to me. I know when I mark something spam, I don't get emails from those folks again. They go immediately to my spam box. Since I am pretty lucky and win stuff all the time that is going to piss me off.

Stupid CL. One more reason I guess not to sell on there.

I do use numbers & letters in all my passwords.

  • This happened to my best friend 2 weeks ago.  I got the email and I never opened it cause I knew it wasn't from her, but she said her WHOLE family got it along with people she doesn't talk to anymore.  She ended up cleaning out her email box and contact list.  As soon as I got the email, I texted her right away to let her know.
