Over on the NC Bump there is a post about how LO help around the house. I was curious if anyone else's pet helps out around the house.
Here are some of Rudy's favorites.
- Bringing in the newspaper from the driveway, although the Sunday paper is sometimes too big for home.
- Carries in the mail from the mailbox (we have to get it out of the mailbox, but no one but Rudy can bring it into the house)
- Carries in groceries from the car
- Brings my lunch box or purse into the house when I get home from work
- Our chest freezer is in our shed, so he loves to bring items into the house (usually boxed items so he doesn't break through the plastic bags)
- Delivers various things to DH "go show daddy"
- Keeps my side of the bed warm!
- And I suppose he helps with the dusting by using his tail!
Re: S/O: Pets helping around the house
Hmm... Bru is not so much of a helper. His only job is to bark and act scary at strange people, and he's got that down.
Once at the beach, he pulled our wagon for us. He acted like he was on a mission... must have been the german shepherd in him.
I wish Rudy was better at this. We figure he'll get better once he has some competition (either another dog or a kid)!
Sugar is my therapy dog
She always brings a smile to my face and makes sure I don't take things too seriously
Wow Elisa--your dog makes mine seem so lazy! lol
Roux helps us out by making DS laugh on a daily basis. He also cleans up around DS's chair after dinner and graciously removes anything from the kitchen floor that lands there while I am cooking. And he is on constant squirrel alert.
Izzy helps with laundry. She will put both sides of her paws on the basket to hold it steady. When it's time to fold she pulls things out to help. She also loves making the bed jumping from corner to corner to make sure the covers are tight. Helpful, helpful girl.
Oh yeah, she also helps close the blinds.
ETA- She is also a great hunter and will stalk and kill any bugs who dare enter our home.
I'll be honest...Shadow is not the most helpful kitty unless it's helpful to wake me up at 2:30am and then at 5am for breakfast (I guess he could be considered an early alarm clock?)
He's very helpful if we have some pork chops that we don't want to completely finish--in fact sometimes he'll even steal those when we DO want to finish them. (He doesn't mind chicken either)
He will help to clean the bowl after our morning cereal at least and make sure there's not a drop of milk in that bowl. (But we still have to wash it...)
As far as our garden goes--well, even though he marks his territory pretty well, unless a rabbit literally passes right in front of his eyes (in whatever direction he happens to be looking at that moment), he's as good as useless.
Oh! But he keeps our driveway and deck VERY safe. He's constantly sleeping there to make sure no one but his mom and dad go there.
That sounds like Jimi. I'll have to put PIP when I get home. Jimi is our resident bug killer, I have no worries about and bugs getting in the house b/c they'll be dead soon enough. Janis is our bedroom security. She let's DH know when Buster has entered the bedroom (DH and Buster don't get along, Bus peed on some of his clothes and he won't let it go). Buster is my garbage disposal. Sadie, well, ummm, she's just my little love bug, doesn't really help around the house much. She can't even keep the cats in line.
Our animals are pretty lazy. The cats do kill bugs though...they also kill dust bunnies and stray bits of dog food.
Noel cleans all the cereal bowls and Val Kitty comes behind to inspect her job.
Matty cat keeps us in check with laundry because he tends to pee in it when it fills up to the top of the basket.
This is fun!
My big fat cat Asia does nothing. She is a lazy girl.
Kota the cat helps by killing bugs, eating the bread so it doesn't get stale, dusting the coffee table and eating any unattended twist ties.
