Anyone in a CSA this year?
How's it going so far? What are your favorite things you're getting?
We're in the same one as last year, and it's the farmer's 2nd year too. So far I am liking it better than last year. A better variety, and lots more "pick your own" stuff.
We bought a food dehydrator so we can take advantage of all the amazing pick your own unlimited herbs. I've gotten 2 bouquets of gorgeous wildflowers every week so far.
I only wish I had more time to learn how to can- I could keep tons of salsa and put away green beans if I knew what I was doing.
Re: Anyone in a CSA this year?
We did one for the first time this year! I have been loving it! We got to try lots of things we wouldn't find/buy ourselves -- garlic scapes, thai basil, chards, broccoli raab, etc, etc.
I tried to make oven dried tomatoes with some nice ones we got just before our week in Chicago, and didn't have time to eat, but I really effed them up by cooking them too long and feel like I wasted them. Other than that we've been pretty good. It's definitely helped us get more veggies in our diet, that's for sure! I have a few recipes and pictures in my blog, but I've gotten bad about it over the summer.
I wish we had pick your own stuff and flowers -- that's awesome!
My Food Blog
We'd looked into one from Newark (had pickup at Abundance Food Co-op in the city off Monroe) last year, but it was full and I was also concerned about the mandatory farm work hours, given our schedules. Olivia_eve kindly pointed me in the direction of her friend who was starting out last year, I went to an info night and we signed up. We really like Erin- her farm is out Route 96, shortly after the village of Victor-

Wow! They seem awesome! I will definitely keep them in mind for next year.
