I have a very old house from 1898. It has NO closet space. You can't even hang clothing sideways in it. Any ideas on storage types for rooms that have no closet space but you have tons of clothing..
I am adding shelving to the closets so that the clothes can be folded and placed inside. I don't have a creative bone in my body
. We are building a laundry room which I guess I can put closets in their.. but thats all I can come up with..
HELP..

I say start a trend. Hang your clothes around your bedroom as wall paper. Wear them and hang them back up
jk of course. Home depot has those cloth cubes on sale for 4.99 each right, I love those for storage. The laundry room is a good idea, I have a friend who did that. She just hung them everywhere so the closet idea is even better!

1. Dual functioning furniture will help. i.e. Coffee table that offers storage, ottomans with a removable top to store blankets or documents, etc. Large wicker baskets under end tables?
2. Think vertically. Install some shelves. Add some boxes to store DVD's, software, CD's, documents, misc. Ikea is a GREAT resource for this. Actually, in general too. Look around their rooms and take note of their space-saving ideas. They have some good ideas hanging multiple Lack shelves. (Look at their catalog if you don't have one nearby.)
3. Since hanging items isn't possible, consider putting a couple tall dressers next to each other. (The Ikea Malm series works well and you can put different heights next to each other.)
4. Purge your closet and store out of season clothing under your bed. Buy some of those bed raiser things (like $10at BBB) and you can store a lot more under there.
5. If you garage ceiling isn't drywalled, is there anything you can store in the rafters? Coolers and chairs during the winter and sleds during the summer.
6. Hooks on your walls to hang jewelry instead of taking up a ton of space on your dresser/in a drawer. Don't forget about behind a bedroom door. You can hang frequently used coats/bulky sweatshirts.
7. Is there enough clearance under your sofa for some under-the-bed storage containers? I had a skirt at the bottom of mine that hid the boxes well. It's a good place for blankets. I used it to store shoes, clothing, etc.
8. If you haven't already, sign up for all your bills online and discontinue any paper statements. There aren't a ton of items that you should have to store.
9. There are a lot of organizing blogs out with great ideas. Iheart Organizing, Unclutterer, Literally Organized, YoungHouseLove. (Sorry, no links handy but you can google them.)
But purge, purge, purge and it will be much easier.
I have an older house and only have 1 closet on the main floor. I can totally relate!!
My sweaters are in the front entryway in an armoir. My shoes are in roll out containers under the bed. My pants/shorts/shoes/jackets are switched out seasonally. I have 2 plastic carts (each with 3 drawers from Target) in the bottom of the one closet that I keep socks, underwear, bras, pjs, and workout clothes. Another trick that I use is ziploc bags - I sort my socks into colors then I squeeze the air. I've also put matching panties and bras in the same bag - the sexy ones I don't wear on a regular basis.
I would get an armoir or something to house the stuff you need on a regular basis. Something that would look cool in the bed room or somewhere else in the house. What about using a dresser for a tv stand and using the dressers for clothes?
Good luck!
You can buy wardrobes, like this (IKEA Hemnes)
You can also very easily frame in a wall length built in cupboard along one wall if you have room.
