Recycling

Random city over here, but I was finishing up lunch and thinking....

So I always check the bottom of plastics for their "number" to know if they're recyclable, and I always get angry when they're not (haha).  So here are a couple things that you may not know are recyclable/not recyclable.

Yes!
Clear plastic containers that berries come in
Plastic trays to frozen meals
Souvenir beer cups from Toledo Walleye games (haha)

No :(
Yogurt cups (at least all of the ones I've had)
Solo cups (although they have come out with some that are recyclable, but they're more $$)

Please add your own if you know of any! :):)

Re: Recycling

  • Not - Pizza Boxes, carton milk containers

Actually, it says right on our recycling container from the city that pizza boxes are.

  • And I do believe that my yogurt cups (yoplait) are.

Apparently, the plastic lids for the plates in the cafeteria at V's are (though it doesn't have a symbol, a coworker was very insistent on them being recycled).

I saw that, but I've also read that the grease from the boxes ruins the recycling process.  So I usually tear off the greasy half and pitch it, then recycle the non-greasy half (if there is one, hah).

  • We usually get it from Marcos and if you take that little extra layer they put in the bottom of the box, you're good to go.  I think.  Trying to avoid pizza these days.  Unfortunately.

Yeah, that's about how it is for us too, hahaha.  But I did notice they're recyclable in case any of them ever have to go. :)

  • Sooooooo that means I'm the lazy one that doesn't bother to know what's recyclable or not and just throws everything in the bin? I put every box, container, anything that I think can be recycled in there. It cuts down on the garbage.

Oh well, maybe I'll actually educate myself someday. At least I'm recycling! And we have 1 Walleye cup - it never gets used, it's in the basement.

I do the same thing!  If it has the symbol on it regardless of the number I do it.  I figure they can sort through it and get rid of it.
