Slow day Poll

Its slow today (at work and here on the board) so I thought we could do a poll.

Poll: What qualities would your dream house have?

My answer: 1. HUGE kitchen with lots of cabinet room, counter space, and a deep sink (and dishwasher is a must). 2. LAUNDRY ROOM! Right now our washer and dryer are in pretty much a closet so we always have clothes hanging up all over the house to dry, not cute. 3. PANTRY. 4. I would love a nice sized fenced in yard with a deck or area for relaxing/entertaining. We love being outside but we don't get to use our yard very much where we are now. We rent and we can't put up a fence so with the dog its no fun to go out there and keep him on a leash. Plus its really small and hilly so we can't do much with it.

Re: Slow day Poll

  • Ooh, this is fun!

What qualities would your dream house have?

    1.  Large kitchen with two ovens (at least one would be a convection) and a large island for additional storage and counter space.

    2.  Land for: a.) HUGE garden, chickens, etc... b.) Entertaining area with great outdoor furnature, firepit, etc...

    3.  Large windows in all the main rooms in the house (I LOVE natural light).

Other than that, the rest of the house can be tiny and it will still be my dream home.

  • 1.  Formal dining room - right now we just have an eat in kitchen, and it works, but it would be nice to have somewhere nice to eat for the holidays and stuff

    2.  Harwood floors throughout.  I wish I had thought of this when we were building.  I can't wait to rip out our carpets.

    3.  A full yard of grass.  Right now it's just patchy, at best.

    4. Undermounted sinks.  I love those!

    5. Granite counters in the kitchen.  I can't wait to remodel and get those!

  • Keeping in mind that our living situation will be a little different when the in-laws move in...

    1) A three car garage.

    2) Big, fenced-in back yard for the doggies and room for a garden.

    3) I don't want a kitchen, I want a "culinary studio" with lots of counter space and room to work and create awesome meals.

    4) Preferable, a separate area of the house or in-law apartment elsewhere on the grounds for the in-laws.

    5) Lots of natural light. If I had my way, lots of floor-to-ceiling windows.

    6)  A pergola-covered balcony or patio with some sort of vined flower growing in it.

And if I'm being really greedy...

    7) A library.

    Oh man, I love this!

    7) A library.

And this!  We would totally use a library (DH has 4 shelves of books in his office plus boxes and I would LOVE to have them all up in the house).

  • My list kind of grew while reading the responses...

    1) a finished basement with a bar/mini-kitchen downstairs

    2) kitchen with tons of counter and cabinet space, large double sink, pantry, built-in double electric ovens, and a gas range-top

    3) a sun room

    4) a large fenced in yard with built in sprinklers, enough room to have both sunny space for a garden as well as a shady space with trees, and an in-ground pool

    5) master bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower

Fireplace and big cushy chair not optional! :)

    Oh, of course!!

ALL OF THE ABOVE!  And french doors in the master bedroom suite, a dark room, black glass window caninets in the kitchen, heated cherry wood floors through out the house, private beach access, huge garden (like martha stewart land), a theater room, a seperate storage/shop for DH to play, a gym, and a field of sunflowers and lavender surrounding the winding private driveway.....check....

  • 1. A finished basement/family room

    2. A loft in the master bedroom so I can have my space - it would serve as the library

    3. A spacious kitchen with lots of counter space

    4. A red front door

    5. A spare bedroom in the basement w/ full bath (my family comes and stays frequently and it would be nice for them to have their own space).

  • I was just talking about this with my still in the doghouse husband this weekend.

    1.  a generous kitchen with thoughtfully placed storage.

    2. a covered porch over the entry area.  I hate that my house doesn't have that and guests coming in have to stand in the elements while I answer the door.

    3. a screened porch and comfy furniture to sit in.

    4. a fireplace

    5.  an attached garage

    6. Neighbors that don't suck

    7. More space to the yard - right now I can practically knock on my neighbor's window if I lean out my own.

    8.  Be located in a great school district with not insane property taxes.

    9.  A perfect mix of sun/shade in the yard so I could have a garden but also sit outside and enjoy it too.

    10.  Built ins in the dining area.  I love those and my house, while age appropriate for it, doesn't have them. We're going to "create" some with our remodel but they're just modified cabinetry, not the real deal.

    4. A red front door

I have a red front door and I love it!!  My house is blue with black shutters and it totally stands out but not obnoxiously so.  It makes it different from the blue house next door with the crappy neighbors (see notes above!).

  • 1. Large kitchen: 2 ovens, gas range, large refrigerator, island, large sink.

    2. Large walk-in closet in the master bedroom: with shelving units to help organize. :)

    3. Large yard with fencing, room for a garden and built-in fire pit and grill/smoker.

    4. Finished basement/entertainment room/play room.

    5. Laundry/craft room.

  • The house I have is perfect except:

It needs more parking area and would love a 3 car garage.

The inside needs repainting and new flooring.

I want a full time housekeeper, a yard guy and a pool boy so we can enjoy it without having to do the upkeep!

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
