Restaurant Review: Noon Midtown

Noon Midtown 8-7-2010

Noon Midtown is located in the 1010 Midtown Building on Crescent Ave in Midtown. It's one of several restaurants on the same block. They serve chef driven cuisine using local ingredients when possible. DH and I went on Saturday. There was only one other table occupied when we got there about 7:15. By the time we left, about half the tables were full, and there were several people at the bar. DH decided to get a beer; the drink menu and offers some of the more common beers and wines as well as specialty house cocktails. I cannot drink right now, so I did not get to taste any of the cocktails. We had the potato and manchego croquettes for an appetizer. They were very small but good. DH had shoulder beef tender, which he said was very good although he was disappointed in the tiny serving size for the price. I ordered the three cheese panino, which was quite tasty. It's really hard for me not to like any sandwich made with melted cheese. DH and I both had the truffled fries. I forgot to ask what kind of oil they were cooked in. They were very flavorful. While I realize that fried foods are not "light," these were heavy even for something fried. For dessert, DH had a banana pudding layered with chocolate custard. The chocolate custard was rich and chocolatey. I hate bananas, so I don't commend on the banana pudding. I had lemon almond cake with basil seed "caviar." The basil seed caviar was very odd; I couldn't eat it. The lemon almond cake was very light and tasty, a nice dessert on a hot evening.

Service was very good but with a little too much hovering. While I appreciate the server checking in during the entrees to see how they are, I don't need to be asked multiple times if everything is good within a 5 minute period. This is perhaps more of a pet peeve of mine than anything. The atmosphere of Noon Midtown is very casual. I was told the menu changes to reflect ingredients that are available locally in-season. Overall, we enjoyed the restaurant and would go back. Parking is relatively easy in the 1010 Midtown parking deck with 2 hours of free parking. Once some retail stores open it may be a bit more difficult as there are only 2 levels of retail/non resident parking spaces.

Pros: Good food and service, reasonable prices, casual come-as-you-are atmosphere
Cons: Parking may be an issue in the future, noisy
