Our A/C is broken!

AHHHH! HELP!!! We live in North Carolina, where the high for today is 94 degrees and the heat index has been around 105 degrees lately.  Our A/C already had issues earlier in the summer and we had someone come out and fix it.  Last night, it slowly started getting warmer and warmer in the house and now our upstairs and downstairs thermostats say it's 82 degrees in the house, when it's set for 75 degrees.  And the best part??? They can't come until TOMORROW to fix it!! Sheesh! The good news is that I have the living room ceiling fan on high and if I just sit here in a tank top/shorts & don't move, I'm actually alright.  Okay. Vent over.  Thanks for reading.

Re: Our A/C is broken!

  • I feel your pain!!!  The heat index has been 110 this past week here in Northern Alabama.  Last week I freaked out because I had the air set for 73 degrees and it was like 76 in the house (I know, big overreaction, but I don't handle heat very well) and Adam had to explain to me that the A/C just wasn't as effective as it usually is because it's so freakin hot outside!!!  I suggest you get one of those inflatable baby pools and soak in it!!

  • I'm so sorry, that sucks!  When I was in college I lived on the top floor and my air rarely worked.  I used to set metal bowls of ice in front of the fans for the dogs and myself, it actually helped.  Good Luck, I hope the can fix it quickly!
  • Ugh. It's not quite that hot here, but our A/C has been out since the last week of May. And our @#$% of a landlord still hasn't done anything other than lend us a window unit for the bedroom (thank goodness for that, though).

May have to try the metal bowls of ice idea!

  • Crap... give me a minute... there's some sort of liquid stuff you can buy that's supposed to cool you off... spirit something maybe?  Let me call my mom.

  • I worry about this happening! The heat here in Nevada is very unforgiving. Hang in there sweety. I would say find someone with a pool and live in it or get the baby pool as Stu suggests!!! And a mister fan. One of the things I love here is a lot of the outdoor seating in vegas is the mister systems to keep you cool
  • Ooo that sucks! Do you have a squirt bottle? You could fill it up with ice water and keep misting yourself while sitting in front of the fan!

  • We're in NC too, I feel your pain!  I actually drove my car to the mailboxes last night because it was so damn humid and I wanted to stay in the A/C.  I hope it gets fixed tomorrow!  Where in NC are you?

Spirits of Ammonia!!!  You mix a tiny bit with water and soak a washcloth in it and then put it on your neck.  You can buy it at a drugstore.

  • Adam gets irritated when I complain about the heat since I sit in an office all day while he works outside doing construction.  Hey, just because I get to sit in the AC all day doesn't mean that I lose my right to b!tch about the heat when I'm actually in it!!  He CHOSE that job.

  • Haha Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies.  We have a pool in our neighborhood but I wanted to do some "work" today in preparation for going back to school next week (teaching kindergarten).  This means I was sitting on the couch reading teacher's blogs all day :)

Becky - We're actually in SW Raleigh....very close to Crossroads in Cary.  I just noticed that you're in Cary! What a small world!

haha that's awesome!  We actually live near Hwy 55 and 540 and live pretty much on the Chatham County line (it runs through our backyard) but still technically live in Cary.  Where was your wedding??  We were at the Embassy Suites at Crabtree.  What a very small world!!
