Our landlords have been pretty good about maintaining our property. Last year we had those giant nests on the side of the house and in the tree and they sprayed them... they always spray our weeds, etc etc.
Well, now we have this mouse problem. We have released 2 (I had a live trap before I started getting really frustrated) and killed 4. I know we live in a rural area but seriously, we're on a main drag in Whitehouse... it just seems like a lot of mice.
I am still seeing them, though. I saw one dart across the dining room last night, and THEN I saw one in my bedroom last night too! (every time I started to doze off I had this feeling I had a mouse on me and it'd freak me out and wake me back up)
We have 2 traps out (which have been really great traps... except for the other day when a mouse figured out how to get the peanut butter OUT of the trap without setting off the trap) and have pretty much been catching a mouse a day, if not more.
Would you tell your landlords about it? I want to seal up any open cracks I see around the house and the one I've noticed in the laundry room (that I am CERTAIN they are getting in at) but I hate to start doing stuff to the house without the landlords knowing. But I don't know if mice fall under their responsibilities or ours?
(I will say this... it took them a few months to get out one time to fix our dining room light... we sat in the dark in the dining room the entire time.)
WDYT?
Re: Question re: landlord
It's great that you're being proactive about it, especially considering their normal response time, lol. I would definitely call, but just call, explain the issue and ask if it's OK for you to do the sealing. I wouldn't ask them to do anything because then it's a waiting game to see when they'll come out.
Plus, most landlords will initially try to put the fault for something like this on you anyhow, assuming you have food left out or are doing something to "attract" them, etc., even if that's not the case. It's just the way it goes most times, hah.
