Okay ladies, I'm brainstorming and your thoughts are always so helpful!
I'm organizing a fundraiser for one of our former high school students who is going to Africa to serve with an organization for a year. We're going to do a "to go food night" (yeah, we'll come up with a better name).
Basically, we'll decide on a menu and price, take pre-orders, then people can pick up their meals on a specified day.
Just wondering if you had any inexpensive but especially tasty menu ideas (the less $ on ingredients, the more $ we'll be able to give to my friend). DH told me, "Spaghetti is the cheapest, so that's probably a good way to go." Sorry, but that just doesn't cut it for me.
Let me know if you have any ideas!
Re: Inexpensive but tasty food ideas!?
What's wrong with spaghetti? In other words, are you looking for something.... more exotic? Simpler? Healthier? To be honest, mostacolli is easier, in my opinion.
Other ideas:
BBQ Pork
Sub Sandwiches made to order
If you have an oven and freezer space... pizza.
Jumbalya
Someone on here mentioned garbage plates that would be pretty easy...
I could see chicken and dumplings and/or biscuits and gravy being an easy bulk item.
EDIT: And on a side note, my parents used to host my high school swim team's Spaghetti Dinner ever year when my brothers and I were swimmers. Seriously easy.
Hm... I kind of agree with Karen that Italian would definitely be easy and inexpensive to feed a lot of people. It doesn't have to be boring!
How about a menu of ...
- Veggie lasagna
- Spaghetti with tomato sauce
- Meatballs
- Salad
- Garlic Bread
And maybe even a chicken marsala for something different? It's pretty easy, and can be served over the pasta.
What about soup/salad/breadroll?
I just think spaghetti is super boring. I've never heard of mostacolli but I looked at a recipe and that sounds tasty!

This one just made me HUNGRY.

Never would have thought of soup because it's summer, but this is a couple weeks away and it's totally cool enough for soup!

Really? Mostacolli rocks my socks. I like it with this sauce (but I go easy on the sugar):

I usually brown the meat and put everything in a crock pot on low for a few hours. Most mostacolli sauces would work well for a fundraiser because most taste BETTER the second day. So if you make everything on a Saturday and sell it all on a Sunday, the flavors will work to your benefit.
You can set up shop like the Soup Nazi with several different kinds of soup. Let me know if you want recipes!
Good to know! Yay! I'm excited now... I was feeling kinda overwhelmed because her $ due date got pushed back and we have to pull this off faster than I was expecting.

Does anyone know how much pasta you'd use with 1 cup of pesto?

Thanks for all your feedback ladies!
I decided to use Karen's recipe with some added veggies over penne, pesto pasta, salad, bread, and cookies. We've already plugged in 16 for sure orders the first day just from posting on facebook.
