Vegas

DH and I are still working on planning a vacation.  San Antonio's still in the running, but we're thinking Vegas may be cheaper (as long as we don't go to shows or do anything extravagant).

I know anyone can visit the hotel casinos whether they're staying there or not... does anyone know if you're able to access the pool areas if you're not a guest at that hotel?

Re: Vegas

  • When I went to Vegas a few years ago, I stayed at the Monte Carlo.  I know that when you enter the pool area there, there is somebody asking to see your room key to prove you're staying there, but I don't know if all the hotels are like that.
  • Good to know.  Were the drinks really overpriced?
  • Oh yes they check for keys and the drinks are a bit pricey.  Vegas is not cheap either....we went to Walgreens to buy personal items and everything was more expensive.  I would go to San Antonio over Vegas, but that's just me.
  • "Old" Vegas was cheap, but the area is much smaller and more....hookers.... Big Smile
  • Yeah, the drinks can be pricey.  If you want one of those frozen drinks in the souvenier cups that everyone's always carrying around, be ready to shell out about $15 each.  Vegas is pretty pricey.  Then those beautiful malls with the expensive stores that suck you in....ohh the money we spent! haha!
  • Treasure Island is doing a special now...$79 a night sun-thurs and some shows are included

  • I get e-mails from NY, NY, Luxor, Exalibur and TI.  Right now all of them are doing specials.  Luxor, Exalibur and NY, NY have the best deals ranging from $30-$50 a night.  Some of these price breaks will even allow you to book cheaper show tickets and drink specials.  I'm thinking that some hotels with the really extravagant pool parties (thinking the pool at The Hard Rock) don't require you to stay at the hotel to get in; you just have to pay a cover charge.

I'm a firm believer that you can do Vegas on the cheap so long as you really watch what you buy.  That said, I don't worry about going out for a nice meal while I'm there and I'm pretty careful when I buy alcohol.  Aside from having no money the only reason I wouldn't go to Vegas right now is because plane tickets are on the high side.

Can't wait to hear where you decide to vacation!

  • When I went to Vegas last I thought I got away pretty cheap.  There seem to always be room deals at most places.  For drinks, as long as you are sitting at a slot machine or table, they'll serve you free drinks.  So keep that in mind.  Otherwise, yeah you'll spend some money depending on what you get.  Food also varies depending on where you go.  And I'd say most hotels will check to see if you are a guest for using their pool areas.
