I've been meaning to ask for ages if "Evie" is a family name. My daughter's name is Hannah Evie, My name is Sarah Evie, my mom's name is Evie May, my grandma was Myrtle Evelyn, and my great grandma was Sarah Evah.
When we pronounce Evie, it rhymes with heavy. I think that you guys are using more the hard E sound, which is how everyone always mispronounces our names anyway.
Re: Noisy
My maternal grandmother was Eva, and her mom was Evelyn, and my Great Nana on my dad's side was Evelyn, as well as one of my great aunts. Initially we liked Evelyn just because it sounded like a mix of my grandma and Lorne's grandma's names (Eva and Joellen) without being a made-up name (ala Renesmee). When I was talking with my mom she told me about all the Evelyns. It never occurred to me that Aunt Ev was Evelyn, or that Great Nana had a name other than Great Nana, and I don't think I knew my maternal great grandma's name until earlier this year.
We just liked how Evie sounds as a nickname (we're pronouncing it with the hard E, but we've had a couple people say it with the Eh sound), and also like that when she gets older she can go by Eve if she thinks Evie is too juvenile.
So, long story short - Evelyn is a family name, but I don't think any of them ever went by Evie.
I bet her FUPA's name is Shane, like the gunslinger/drifter of literature.--HappyTummy
