Hi Ladies -
DH and I will most likely be traveling out West this November. His Aunt invited us to meet up in Vegas - they will be there 11/11 - 11/14.
I've never been out west before, and I'm trying to plan a trip.
As far as dates, we are flexible - 11/6 - 11/14, or 11/13 - 11/22. We will be going to Vegas to hang out, possibly the whole time, or not - it all depends on if we find something else to do.
Any recs for what to do in Vegas? Any particular shows? (I'm already asking for Cirque Tickets for my b-day!).
What about other areas out this way, within driving distance? I'm thinking a Napa tour - but would like suggestions!

I would definitely want to do something else besides just Vegas... Vegas is fun for a couple of days if you've never been there. If you love to gamble, you might extend that but for me, I've had enough after a couple days. They do have some great hotels/pools/restaurants to take advantage of though.
As for other things to do - you could drive over to California - go see the Pacific - I think you are much closer to SoCal than Napa though. You could drive down to the Grand Canyon - I've made the drive and I think it was about 4 hours. You would go by the Hoover Dam too. Flagstaff, AZ is a really fun town. Not sure how far Sedona, AZ is from there but its my favorite place in AZ.

I love Vegas, personally. It's ridiculously expensive and the people can be hideously annoying, but I choose to ignore all of that and just focus on the bright lights, the thrill of gambling (at penny slots, mind you), the tremendous restaurant choices, and the array of shows. However, with my totally admiration of the place, I wouldn't stay for more than four or five days...
Napa is waaaaay Northern CA (north of San Francisco), whereas Vegas is only four hours outside of San Diego. Basically, if you went from Vegas to Napa, it'd probably take about 6-7 hours (going North). Then you'd have to drive 8-9 hours south to get back to So-Cal. From Vegas, I'd say either go down through Arizona like Hawki suggested or swing through L.A. and hit Hollywood, then come down through Anaheim to Disney, and then to S.D.
Oh! As for Vegas recommendations:
Shows:
I've seen Phantom at the Venetian, Zumanity at New York New York, and Peepshow at Planet Hollywood. If it's just you and your husband, I'd highly recommend Peepshow (as long as you don't mind seeing lots of boobs and butts) -- it was SO much fun, and Holly Madison (formerly Hugh Heffner's girlfriend/star of a bunch of E! reality shows) was surprisingly good in the show. I've also seen Lance Burton, who is a magician. I think he's at Monte Carlo. His show was pretty good.
Restaurants:
I'm a huge Jimmy Buffet fan, so I've got to start by saying Margaritaville at the Flamingo. It's a really fun atmosphere, even if you're not into his music, and the food is good for a decent (Vegas) price. This past trip I ate for the first time at Le Burger Brasserie in Paris. OMG, SOOOOO Amazing! They have beef, veggie, salmon, and turkey burgers. They also have a Kobe Beef + Maine Lobster burger that's served with a bottle of Dom Perignon for $777. I'd never ever ever order it, but it's cool to tell people you ate at a place where that's on the menu! Nine Fine Irishmen in NY/NY is good too. If you like country music, Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill at Harrah's is pretty cool too -- the bar is shaped like a guitar.
Other Attractions:
I'm a big fan of Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum which is at the Venetian. The Venetian, Ceasar's Palace, and Planet Hollywood also all have huge shopping malls attached to the hotel/casino. You need to watch the Bellagio Fountains at least once. The pirate/siren show outside T.I. is also cool, but can get very crowded, so check showtimes.
Lucky you, I absolutely LOVE Vegas!
Definitely see a Cirque show! Or four. Lol.
I've seen:
O
Mystere
Ka
Zumanity
They are in order of my favorite to least favorite, although they're all amazing. Zumanity is the "sexier" show and does contain nudity. O just completely blew my mind, it's definitely my favorite.
Surprisingly, I have actually really never gambled when I've gone, so I have no tips for that.
I've stayed at:
The Bellagio
TheHotel at Mandalay Bay
Paris
The Venetian
My favorite of the bunch was TheHotel, although it's on the far side of the strip, it was so luxe and just a wonderful experience. Paris and Treasure Island are good for moderate rate hotels. I was not impressed with the service or rooms at Bellagio, IMO it's way overrated. I've heard that The Palazzo is an awesome place to stay.
A must do IMO is Ghost Bar at The Palms. It will take your breath away! I also love, love, love the piano bar in NY, NY. I have more recs if you're interested but this is long already
I also agree with going to the Grand Canyon for a day! Northern Cali is still very far from Vegas.
OMG Ladies, thank you!
All great ideas!
I'm a HUGE GND (old) Fan, and would love to see Holly! (I'm sure the hubs wouldn't mine either).
Disney - I totally forgot about Disney! I've been in FL... however this may take some convincing..
Thank you so much for the restaurant recs, and the shows!
Ahh! I'm excited!
SBS (or any westcoaster)
Would it be ideal, if the hubs and I got a hotel (just a random hotel), in San Diego - and took little day trips from there (for example, Disney one Day, the Zoo the next day - I'll have to research more about the area), and then we drive to Vegas after being in SD for like 4/5 days?
What's the temp like in November?
Sorry, I'm excited!
YES! Great idea. Disney is about a 1.5 hour drive from most of San Diego County. It can be a long day, but I think it's worth going from opening to closing (which, in November, is usually 8:00 - 10:00 for Disneyland and 10:00 - 6:00 for CA Adventure). Get a one-day park hopper so you can see both parks.
Now, there are other things close to Disney, including Knott's Berry Farm (another theme park, LOTS of fun) and Medevial Times. You could always do one overnight up there.
It varies. Now, remember, I have West Coast blood, which means the second that it drops below 70 degrees I'm wearing a sweatshirt and jeans and complaining it's too cold. November, though, is when it usually does start to dip down into the low-60s and can be rainy. However, we also get some random heat streaks.
Also, just so you know, the Susan G. Komen 3-Day is in November (the 19th-21st). I'm actually walking in it this year. I'm just letting you know in case you see swarms of people along the coast and think "What the heck is that?!?!"
Well, reading other people's posts makes me realize why I might not like it--my friends never want to go to shows in theatres. We also don't go out for theme meals too much, though I have liked the buffet at the Mirage. We just stay up and drink and gamble (which I suck at). My advice to you is to not stay up all night. At four in the morning it's only total sleezeballs and elderly people gambling away their social security checks. That's why I find it depressing.
The fountain show at the Bellagio is nice. I think Treasure Island's show is silly.
And, though I bag on it all the time, I would also recommend staying in L.A. Depending on where you are, you are much closer to Disneyland and Knott's. There's also Universal Studios which is right near Hollywood. I haven't been there in years but it's supposed to be pretty fun. And all the Hollywood and Beverly Hills and Santa Monica stuff to do

Thanks for the info Lark!
I'm not much of a gambler either, but I am more of a people watcher!
And thanks for the tip in regards to LA over SD - I think I'm going to have to do some research. I talked to the hubs, and he likes the idea of hanging out and going to Disney/Sea World/The Zoo & possibly Hollywood and Universal Studio's.
We are going to rent a car and take it from there - not expecting to be in the hotel a lot, so it doesn't have to be top of the line.
Yes, the shows are my favorite part about Vegas. Followed closely by the amazing, impressive meals and off-the-chain clubs! And pool time of course, lol. If I was sitting in a casino all day and night, I would definitely be depressed also!
Valley of Fire. You can easily tie it in with a trip to Hoover Dam or Lake Mead.
