Housewarming-Pot Luck & Gift

So we've been invited to a housewarming but it's also a pot luck. Basically they said we'll provide the drinks and gave a list of foods on the e vite for you to choose from.

Should we still bring a housewarming gift in addition to the food?

I've been to several housewarmings but none have been a pot luck.

Re: Housewarming-Pot Luck & Gift

  • I would probably take something small,  I've never been to a pot luck house warming either.

  • A plant is always something nice to give along side a pot luck dish.... also some small ideas are: photo frames, candles, or figurines/art for the kitchen or bathrooms (if you know their decor style).

I usually stick with plants and flowers or picture frames.

P.S. Chances are some other couples won't bring a gift at all!

  • I have the perfect solution to this...at BBB you can buy the Rival crockpot mini dipper for 14.99, and with you coupon it will be 12.00. I would make a hot dip, like spinach and artichoke or buffalo chicken dip...bring it in this, wrap the empty box with the recipe and a nice card...voila, gift and food contribution all in one
  • Yeah, buy a serving dish to bring your food in/on and leave it as the hostess gift.

Cute idea, and you could do this with almost any piece of serve ware you know they'll like.  You can NEVER go wrong with white, glass, or silver.

I was going to suggest the same thing! You could also include a copy of the cookbook you used to make the item, or if you are bringing drinks, you could get a set of glasses/stemware.

Jacinda Dietz's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf) ExerciseMilestone

  • we are doing a pot luck housewarming party but on the invite i told people to bring a dish in lieu of a gift.  honestly i kill plants, i don't need anymore frames or candles and would rather pick that stuff out myself.

  • Buying the crock pot or a serving platter and putting the food in it and leaving the pot/platter as a gift - Cute Idea!
  • Something small in addition to the pot luck dish is a nice gesture.  I usually take a plant or a bottle of wine to HW parties.
