Cat update! :)

So we're definitely going to get two non-kittens.  Definitely going to the Golden Valley Humane society b/c we may very likely find two cats in one of the many rooms they have which means we know they like each other already.

Adoption will be in either October or potentially not til March.  DH hosts a g2g and one woman is allergic to cats but is having a baby this spring.  So, in theory, DH has to weigh the joy of hosting vs cats.  We assume when baby arrives they'll just move the g2g to her house so cats become a nonissue.

Dh has been to the HS a lot and almost always finds really sweet cats so we are not worried.  We also got a cool "test" a therapist family friend did on cats when she was looking...all based on attachment theory. She'd bring the cat to the visitation room and try to pet its tummy.  If it was willing to let her do that it meant it had the ability to trust, which is a good sign.

Went to Target tonight just to look.  We may go ahead and buy a big litter box to see that it fits well in our mudroom, along with "Kitty City" getting one or two sets so the cats can see out the low front window but still be laying down.

Exciting!!!

  • Awesome!

As you probably remember, we adopted Sampson from the Golden Valley location back in April. He has been such a joy (a little bit naughty, but hey that's OK!) to have around. I'm so glad we jumped on the opportunity and adopted him.

Congrats on your decision! Please keep us updated!

And I agree with the PP Yes

  • Good news!

I wouldn't use the belly rubbing test too seriously, though. Cats often just don't like strangers and belly rubbing makes them entirely vulnerable so it's entirely possible they may not let you rub their belly immediately but still be great pets. One of my cats relied on DH for belly rubbing time for about 2 years. I'm pretty sure it was just because I came into DH's life after she did. She'd let me pet her, just not rub her belly. I don't think it meant she isn't capable of trusting, I think it just means she's cautious.
