I posted a week or so ago about my search for a rental property. My search continues, however we have changed our strategy a bit. Originally we were looking for a single family rental home with a fenced back yard and some extra storage space (garage, basement, etc) because we have a big dog, a cat and a houseful of stuff! I start a new job at Spectrum on the 30th and my husband is staying behind in Kansas City until our house sells and/or he finds a job (he is a project manager for a residential home builder- if you have any leads, let me know!).
Since we don't know when our house will sell in KC or when he will get a job, I am now on a search for a smaller place with a short term lease option, month to month would be great! That way, I can move and settle into a small, affordable place and when he moves up with the dog we can find "the rental of our dreams". Ha!
So, now I'm kind of looking at places in Eastown, Heritage Hill, Downtown areas- it may be my only opportunity to be Urban before I have to return to Suburbia! Any ideas? It's a completely different search than a house with a fenced in back yard!
Move Date- 7 days away! EEEEKKK! My last day at my current job is on the 19th and I thought I would be
moving next weekend- but now that I don't have a place to move into to I may have to just come up and live in an extended stay hotel until I figure something out. I have been searching craiglist and have several what seem like good options! Here are a few- but it is SO hard to find a place online, remotely from 620 miles away! I think I'll have to spend some time the week before I start at Spectrum to look at properties. Although I've found a few potentials, I wanted to post and check with the "experts" in town. Any ideas or hints?

Re: Desperately Seeking a Rental (Part 2)
My friend has a rental unit available, if I were single I would definitely want to live there.

The first link - I can't actually tell from their website if they even have any units open right now. The Campau estate is gorgeous, though, if they do.
The second link - that is a beautiful part of Prospect Street, although $925 a month for a one-bedroom when you are already paying for a big move/dual living spaces would be WAY more than I would want to spend, and honestly you can do a lot better for your money in GR. Cost of living here can be pretty low if you look.
The third link - I am iffy about Baldwin Street. It's one of those places where, although urban renewal has come up all around it, that street can still be questionable sometimes. The price would have to be really good for me.
If you haven't yet, I'd check out: http://www.heritagehillweb.org/apartmen.htm to find some great places in the historic Heritage Hill area - the association is pretty strict so there should be some good landlords in that list.
This would be an awesome single-family place if you still are considering that option: http://rentgr.homemi.net/ViewProperty.aspx?PropertyId=1525
This one says "negotiable lease" and is a good Heritage Hill location: http://rentgr.homemi.net/ViewProperty.aspx?PropertyId=3156
If you are working at Spectrum Butterworth (downtown), you could walk to work from this one: http://rentgr.homemi.net/ViewProperty.aspx?PropertyId=3432
This one looks BEAUTIFUL, great location and definitely offers month to month: http://rentgr.homemi.net/ViewProperty.aspx?PropertyId=2195
Good location, negotiable lease options: http://rentgr.homemi.net/ViewProperty.aspx?PropertyId=4960
Good luck!
I just saw your reply to my page below, but just wanted to say hi and good luck! There are apartments right near the parking lot you'll likely be parking in that does short-term lease options. I had a friend/co-worker that used to live there and liked it. They also allow small dogs (I can't remember what kind of dog you have) in case you all have to move in there for a bit. It might be an option:

my co-workers daughter has a house for rent on Kalamazoo just south of Burton St. Maybe not as urban as you aer looking for but it may be worth looking into. It is empty right now and move in ready. A dog in the house is no problem either. It is a fenced in back yard. If you want more information on who to contact, please email me and I will send you the property managers name and number and the address of the house. mylinds06 @ hotmail dot com
From what I hear it is a great house and may just be the "rental of your dreams"
