Clicky Poll re: FB & co-workers

I have very few co-workers as my FB friends. Only a select few whom I'm very close to. Like maybe three.

Well, one of these friends, let's call him John, recently got promoted. Okay fine. Not in my group, no reporting relationship between us. No biggie.

I was just informed that effective in September, John will be my new boss. My boss is being rotated to another group, John is rotating into his position.

So, back to the FB aspect of the question:[Poll]

Re: Clicky Poll re: FB & co-workers

  • I wouldn't defriend him, because I would worry that that in itself may cause some weirdness if he notices. Rather, I would create a filter that excludes him and anytime you post something that you're squirmy about your boss seeing, use that filter. There's no way he wouldn't know that you just aren't posting as much as you used to.
  • I agree with PP. I went to my privacy settings and blocked all the people I work with from seeing what I post, what my friends post, etc.

  • You two should not be FB friends once he becomes your boss.  You could wait for him to mention it first (and he hopefully will-after all he's the boss).  Otherwise I'd go to him and tell him that you're defriending him b/c he'll be your boss soon.  Tell him that you have nothing against him, you're still his friend, etc, and he should understand.  If he doesn't then he shouldn't be a supervisor.

This.  I think it's always best to just lay it out there and address it head on.
