Hair cut?

I posted this on the fashion and beauty board, but haven't gotten any suggestions!! I figured you girls are all so helpful, I'd post it here.

I want to cut my hair, but want it to be something different than my hair now.

What I have: I have straight hair with a center part - I have always worn it that way too. (I can't use a curling iron to save my life). Most days I wear it in a pony tail or up in a bun, sometimes in a braid. From about age 12 through high school it was long (most of the way down my back.) In college, I chopped it to about mid-shoulder blade. I haven't had bangs or shoulder length since I was about 10.

What I want:  I want something different, not just a short version of what I have. (I don't want to just cut length, I want a new style.) I don't THINK I want bangs, but I think that it's because it has been so long since I've had them (like 15+ years, never as an adult) and I always wear my hair back/up that the thought of them in my face I think would bother me.

I had been avoiding a haircut for quite awhile because of the wedding. Now I need help. Suggestions? TIA!!

Re: Hair cut?

  • can you PIP a pic of your current hair? that would help me in searching for hairstyles that i think would work for your face :)

  • Yes I agree with Kim, we definitely need to see a pic of your current hair! What about introducing a side part? I've been parting my hair on the side since I started college 6 years ago, and I'm never going back to the center part! What about adding some long layers or angling in the front? What about side-swept bangs? I have to agree with you, I am not a huge fan of the bangs across the forehead. I think it looks to choppy and harsh (on anyone).

  • I'm a fan of the wedged cut, where it is shorter in the front and tapers down to the front.  You can do it at different lengths too, to allow for the opportunity to pull it up if you need to.  Just a thought!
  • I agree with pp about getting your hair layered.  Also, try a side part.  It is amazing what a difference can be made just by changing how you part your hair.  Whenever I want something different, I just get most of my hair chopped off.

  • GracefulMeadows: I attached a few of our e-pics. My hair is pretty typical in the pics of what I do day-to do. One pic is a side pic, so you can see length, etc (it's thick, btw) and the other is facing forward so you can see my face. Hope this helps....thanks!imageimage

    Thanks a bunch ladies!!

  • do you like any of these? i know you are skeptical of the bangs but you could always do less bangs or sideswept ones or pin them back when you put your hair up in a little poofy thing. thats cute :)
