Mine was always my new notebook, especially the Trapper Keeper.
Not technically a school supply but I loved these.
Definitely my favorite!
I have a girl that works for me that is 20-ish. Several months ago, I asked her if she knew what a trapper keeper was, and she had no clue. She doesn't know what she's missing.

Our schools banned Trapper Keepers. . . bunch of hates!
Personalized backpack... get one with your name or initals on it, then adding patches and buttons or decorating with a sharpie.
I used to love these things, but they didn't make them this cool when I was in shcool! They have places for your ipods now. I'm jealous.
