I'm Back!! Finally! I let all of you know that I was going to San Francisco for vacation with my in-laws last week and goodness gracious it was horrible!!!!! So we left on Friday the 6th for what was supposed to be a relaxing week vacation in San Fran with DH, SIL, her 2 year old daughter, and MIL and her husband (DH's step dad). We were not even on the road an hour when everything started going down hill. MIL drives HORRIBLY! We are from a small town so even the smallest amount of traffic is not something she is used to. A motor home put it's signal on to switch lanes when we were next to it. The motor home made no move to get over because it saw that we were next to it, but left it's signal on so they could get over when we passed. MIL freaked out and slammed on the brakes because the motor home kept its signal on! Her husband (who was in the passenger seat because MIL has to be in control at all times which includes driving everywhere) rolled down the window and made MIL drive up next to the motor home so he could flip them off and cuss up a storm. The motor home did absolutely nothing wrong and the worst part....WAS FULL OF KIDS!! It was so embarrassing. We eventually made it to San Fran with limited problems. I found out when we got there that we weren't actually going to San Fran but actually staying 2 hours east and only going to San Fran once. That would have been fine if I would have known before. When we packed to go, I packed for San Fran (55 degrees the whole week). Now we are staying in a place that was expected to be 98 degrees or higher the whole week. My sweatshirt and jeans was not gonig to cut it there and I only packed one pair of shorts for sleeping in and two t-shirts. On the way down we also discovered that MIL can't multi task which meant that she can't follow the directions that the GPS was giving her and drive at the same time so DH and I had to give directions from the back of the car the whole week. The one time we went into San Fran we got stuck in downtown traffic at 4:00. We had her in the lane she needed to be in but the lane next to us was moving faster. She asked if she could get over and we told her that it was up to her but our guess was that it was faster because that lane was a "turn only" lane that she didn't need to be in. She decided to get over...and the lane ended. This caused her to literally scream at me for telling her to get over. I had been great at holding my temper all week but I lost it when I got yelled at for her mistake. DH jumped right in and defended me and got really mad because she yelled at me. That was basically the last straw of the trip. MIL and stepdad complained the entire week because they felt that my 2 year old neice was ruining the trip. She is 2 years old and they kept getting angry when she act like a 2 year old. They went shopping and kept her in a stroller in 103 degree heat while they shopped for 7 hours and got mad when she started crying because she wanted out. Every time she got upset about something they would throw a fit and tell her that she was ruining everything. It defenitly made me and DH decide that they will only have supervised visits with our kids! DH and I had a great time when it was just the two of us or the two of us and our neice. It was just extremely frustrated. On our way home on Saturday, MIL and step dad got over an arguement over where the liquor superstore was which ended with cuss words galore and screaming. They refused to speak to each other until they got home where they found a ticket waiting in the mail from a red light camera. Supposedly stepdad ran a red light before we left for our trip which he vehemently refused happened....until he turned to the second page of the ticket which was 5 different pictures showing him driving through the light. Boy, I was so glad to get in the car yesterday morning with DH and drive 5 hours away from them and we aren't planning on going back down until Thanksgiving!! It will defenitly make us think twice about family vacations now!
Sorry this ended up so long! I hope your guys' week was better.
Re: I'm Back! Vacation Update...Sorry Long
Sorry your vacation wasn't what you expected.
One word of advice - paragraphs are a WONDERFUL thing. They make long posts much easier on the eyes, imo.
