Dog adjusting better than I am!

Dh and I bought a dog on Sunday. Its been really really good, 6mths old, housebroken, crated trained. barely barks, kinda out of that puppy phase (I'm knocking on wood right now). We wanted to get a dog, I'm just not sure if we were expecting to get it this fast (everything just worked out great). I'm just having trouble adjusting (now granted its only been a day)! I think its just more related to the fact that I feel like we have lost some of our freedoms (coming home to let it out, ect). I really like it but just feel kinda panicky? Can anyone related to this? I'm PMSing so I'm emotional anyways.

  • HAHA, I can relate to this.  We got a puppy just about two months ago and for the first week I was regretting our decision.  I started to panic about how we couldn't just pick up and leave or stay out for long periods of time now because of the dog, but it went away after a few days and I LOVE our puppy.  She is such a sweetie and is definitely tons of fun to have.  You definitely do have to plan more when you have a dog in terms of staying out and whatnot, but now it all just kind of works.  Don't stress too much, it will get better and you will become very attached to your fur baby!

  • Don't feel bad about having those feelings.  It's completely normal!  It will just take time to adjust.  I went through the same thing when I adopted my dog about 2 years ago.  He was being abused by his owner and when a coworker was looking for someone to adopt him and get him out of the situation (she is friends with the owner), I thought it would be the greatest thing to have my own dog.  It's all good when you are just thinking about how cute they are and how much fun it is to play with them and to cuddle with them but it doesn't take long for reality to kick in!  Not only is there the letting out and feeding and stuff, but my poor dog has chronic diahrea.  He has occasional accidents in the house and I've spent so much money at the vets trying to find out how to fix it ($1,000 procedure later, still no solution).  But, you know, I love the little guy and would never give him up.  It is worth the stress and the responsibility.
