Re: Need or Needs

"Cheese!"
I suppose she is correct that work is not plural, but if it were then it would be need without the s - not needs. Ex. The works need to be completed. That is the only case were need would not have an s on the end and even that just doesn't sound right to me.
I typed the sentence in MS word and did a grammar check and it stated that without the s it is wrong - but it wouldn't give me a rule for it or anything. I was asleep the day they taught english and proper grammar in school because I'm constantly having to use MS word to see if something is the correct grammar.
She's wacko. And I'm really glad no one here voted for need, hah.
Amy's right, it has the s when referencing singular words, but no s for plural words. I think she's confused. When you convinced her it's needs, did she want to put an apostrophe in there too, like "need's"? hahaha
Angi ~ LOL. You are right and it was driving me BSC, thus my post. ;-)
I told her I didn't care what she used, as it is her document. She asked me to look it over and I was just telling her what I found. Instead of dropping it, she went on and on about it, trying to prove me wrong. Next time, I'm just going to tell the document looks good.
Merin ~ I am SO NOT getting into apostrophes with her!!! LOL
