Whooohoooo - finally!!

I am a teacher in IL, and lost my job in the Spring. I have been working my butt off trying to find another teaching job since then. I've sent out more apps than I can count, and only had 1 interview. Most jobs in my area are getting 200-300 applicants. (I live in a great city, but am within 45 minutes of 3 major universities. One of them is one of the top three teaching schools in the country. This isn't helping). Today is the day most schools in my area started back up. If they didn't today, they do this week. This morning, I thought to myself "Well, I don't have a job, and at this point, won't be getting one."

Last week I sent information in to the university in town. I'm a graduate student there, and they need help with a study being done. The study pays AWESOME, involves working with schools, and they want people with teaching experience. I heard from them today and I'm supposed to go in and talk to the project coordinator tomorrow. Whoohoo!!!

Then tonight, while cooking dinner, I got a phone call from a random number. It was the HR woman from a local school asking if I was still interested in the Social Studies position. I told her yes, yes, yes, and have a first round interview Friday. I'm really wanting this job over the one from the university, but both would be awesome.

Keep you're fingers crossed!! (I was going to write send knottie vibes, but we aren't knotties anymore, and nestie vibes doesn't sound nearly as good.)

  • Yay! Good vibes going your way! I had 3 friends get pink slipped this year that are teachers. It is just a rough time to be in the education field...even with years of experience (they'd all just switched districts). Best of luck!

  • A big Good Luck to you!!  Now sure is not a good time to be in the teaching field.  The school district here just cut a ton of jobs and even closed one of their elementry schools.  It's sad to see that education is one of the first things to get cut when money gets low.
