dirty dishes at a friend's house.
This has happened to me twice recently had two different friends' houses. first I was handed a wine glass that had lip smudges on it, my friend noticed me looking at it weird and said "oh just grab a different one from the cabinet". two other glasses in the cabinet were the same way so I just washed the first one.
next, eating dinner my knife was caked with old food. I just didn't use it.
the first situation I think happened because they let their 8 year old wash the dishes. the second one I think is just a bad dishwasher.
it's gross but I feel bad.

Re: how do you handle this?
That's happened to me. I just say something like, "I think I need a different fork."
It's weird, though. We use the dishwasher gel packs and sometimes I find them still in the basket after the cycle, so I'm anal about checking the quality of the washing job before I put the dishes away.
I'm bad about checking the dishes when I put them away. I am sure this surprises you since I have a reputation for being such a clean freak.
We've had the problem where the little pack didn't burst a couple times. When I finish the bunch I have, I plan on going to just regular detergent. I was just talking with my mom about how those packs have too much detergent in them anyway, and it's bad for your dishes and your machine.
