Clothes People - Prevent My Embarrassment

We signed Jane up for swimming lessons and now I need a suit.  I have done zero regular exercise in, well, years probably.  So I was thinking board shorts with a tankini top.  Tell me where to buy these things, please.  Cause I'm at a loss.

Also, I shouldn't wear black to an afternoon wedding, right?

Re: Clothes People - Prevent My Embarrassment

  • Target has a lot of different style suits, and they're on sale right now.

Black wouldn't be my first choice for an afternoon wedding, but I've done it too...  I think the material makes a difference. Black silk/satin - too much. Black linen or cotton, more of a free pass...

  • Try Land's End. I think black is fine unless there is a widow's veil included in the ensemble.

  • Black can be done with the right accessories.

  • Target suits are built for teenagers' bodies, IMO.  If you have time to shop, hit up the Teej or Marshall's.  Otherwise Kohl's old lady section has some cute designs that are cut to cover the ass of a normal female over age 25.

  • I concur on the Lands End suggestion.

I'm not a fan of black in the afternoon, but I think that's more of a personal preference.  I would just take your cue from the formality of the wedding.

  • Ditto Land's End, but I was in a couple of different Sears before vacation and they had almost nothing left for bathing suits. Marshall and TJs are good too.

I wouldn't say no to black for the afternoon wedding, but depends on the dress.

  • Muchas gracias; I think I found something that will work for swimming.

This is the dress I was thinking about - probably with pearls.  One wedding is pretty fancy, the other less so.

  • If you have to wear it to two weddings, that's a good choice.  You could dress it down with some casual jewelry for the afternoon wedding.

If she's gonna wear that, she may as well wear mouse shoes to the wedding, too.
