mopping kitchen floor, how often do you mop behind....

stove, fridge or any other appliance that needs to be moved?

Re: mopping kitchen floor, how often do you mop behind....

  • well i have moved 13 times in the last 15 years and so i usually get all that upon move out of the apt.  now we have just bought a home and i guess i'll have to do it more often.  maybe every couple of months?

  • When we move I will have to clean behind the fridge.  I've done it a couple of times throughout each year of living here but nothing I break my back over doing.  It is in a tough spot and very hard to pull out and clean under/behind.  I really try to use the vacuum to suck up as much as I can once a week around and partially under so that when it comes time to clean it isn't as hard.  Our new place will have a fridge that is really easy to clean under so I can't wait for that!

  • I can't even imagine why you would do this. So, never.

I worry about scratching floors and/or loosening connections every time we've had to pull something out.

We have an appliance brush to swipe underneath and get out any dust or cat hair that's building up underneath. But that's for the sake of the appliance, not the floors.

  • Never!  Unless we need to get back behind them for some reason (repair, etc.), it doesn't get cleaned behind them.
  • Not so much. When we moved in a little over a year ago, we pulled the appliances out to paint so I cleaned the floors then. They won't be moved again until the appliances are replaced... which will be within a year. After that, only as needed (a catastrophic cheerios disaster for example). I'll get what I can with the vacuum hose, but I'm not killing myself trying to move heavy appliances just to suck up a few dust bunnies.
  • I do it twice a year.  Your fridge will run better if there's not a lot of dust build up. Our moves out pretty easily.

The stove, however, has only been moved once in nearly 3 years of living here.  And I have never touched the dishwasher.  I don't even know if it would move!

  • We did behind the stove in the spring and I'm glad I did. It was nasty. The previous owners weren't known for their cleaning habits. I haven't moved the fridge because its huge and is wedged into its space so it probably won't move until I either become much stronger, it is replaced or the floor is replaced. I don't know if my dishwasher pulls out, and I wouldn't want to risk loosening the connections to it- too many things could go awry!
  • Behind the stove probably once a season. My drawer pulls entirely out, so I clean under it all really easily.

Behind the fridge I've done one in 4 years. Our frige is oversized/heavy and jammed pretty tight between the wall and counter, so it's almost immovable on a regular basis. I refuse to think about what may or may not be behind there.

  • I usually do once every three months, I also clean the sides of the overn and fridge at the time... It was horrific when we first moved into the house and pulled the stove out and I just don't think the previous owners ever pulled it out to clean it.... ok sorry rant over hahaha

  • I won't move the dishwasher.  The stove and fridge I'll clean under every Spring and Fall.  My stuff pulls out pretty easily, figure why not keep that area clean too?
