Quality and cost of MerryMaids etc?
Does anyone use any of the large services - Merry Maids, The Maids, Maid Pro - and if so, how much do you pay and would you recommend them? I am getting quotes and they seem expensive but I haven't hired a cleaning service in a long time. (I am in the Cambridge/Belmont/Watertown area if anyone can recommend a private housekeeper instead)

Re: Quality and cost of MerryMaids etc?
I hired Merry Maids to do our house right before my wedding and they sucked. They charged me $250 for a one time cleaning and at the time, I was so stressed with planning, I would have paid $1,000 for someone else to deal with my house!
They left half of my stuff untouched (barely dusted anything). I will say they did an AMAZING job with my kitchen but everything else was not a $250 cleaning job.
I use someone now who charges me $80 per cleaning and she's incredible! She moves all my furniture and everything!
There was a post about them on MM not long ago. The general consensus was that they do a good job making things LOOK clean.
My MIL thought they did a good job when we gave her a gc for Christmas one year.
I have no recs, since I used a friend's housekeeper a few times, but I'd go with an insured private housekeeper over a large corporation.
