Hound's Mommy/Daddy post made me think...

On DH's side of the family they generally call grandparents "Maw maw and Paw Paw" I don't love it but whatever. Well... great grandparents I have learned are "Other Maw maw" and "Other Paw paw"  I am sorry but that is just a little too hillybilly for me. I am going to try really hard to get his dad to be Grandpa since my dad prefers Pappa. My family it was always Grandma __(last name)__ so my mom will be Grandma Droll, then her mom will be Great Grandma.

Re: Hound's Mommy/Daddy post made me think...

  • My grandparents were Grandma and Grandpa and Nana and PopPop. My parents go by Grandma and Grandpa. FIL goes by Pa
  • I can handle any of them except "Other" maw maw/paw paw. WTH is that?

  • I didn't realize "other" was part of the name. That's odd.
  • That doesn't even make SENSE.

I'd be fighting that tradition too, hah.

Causes that are important to me: Planned Pethood Graham's Foundation NOCC
  • Growing up for me, it was always Grandma and Grandpa Lastname (except for my mom's parents - they were just Grammy and Grandpa since we saw them every day).  I recall three great grandparents when I was young and it was the same with them.

  • it was always grandma/grandpa last name with both sets of grandparents for me.   my niece and nephew call my parents maw and pa.  that will probably continue with me when i have kids.

    Kris....I'm finally a Mrs! 10/11/08

I never knew mine, but I adopted one of our old neighbors as my grandma and called her busha.  A will call one of her great grandmas (who is Croatian) Bubba sp?
