Am I not seeing the enormity of this?

Everyone around us is freaking out that we are moving to the Bay Area. I don't get what all the fuss is about. I guess I just see it as a place we are going to be during the week and we will be back home most weekends. Maybe it's because we really aren't bringing any new furniture with us and buying everything for that house, so I'm thinking of it as a "vacation home" of sorts? All of a sudden, all of our friends want to see us "before we leave" and I'm getting calls and emails because we didn't say anything to them and they are hearing it from other friends. I just don't get it. I keep telling people we will be home on the weekends, we are only going to be 2 hours away, and I'm coming home after Thanksgiving until Natalie is born.

Am I missing something here?

Re: Am I not seeing the enormity of this?

  • lol maybe they're all crazy :) oooorrr maybe they aren't understanding that you will be home on weekends? hmmm... weird.
  • Maybe because they dont understand what is all going on.  Send out a massive email stating Andrew has been working 2 hours from home for the past time frame.  You will be joining him now until Thanksgiving.  Then you will be moving back home until the baby is born etc.

Maybe it will calm everyone down.  Nothing is going to change because you will still be in Sac on the weekends just like Andrew is now.

I think the whole issue is because they don't understand what is going on and what has been going on.  They are probably oblivious Andrew has been gone. lol

  • I bet some miscommunication has been spread.  Someone probably said you're moving up there and then it got passed around that it's permanent, etc.  It's like the game telephone. :)
  • Yeah, I see all of your points. Maybe an email will do some good. The thing I don't get is that the people who are freaking out the most are our closest friends that know our situation. That Andrew's been living in a hotel during the week. That he only comes home on the weekends, etc. We've talked to these people about all this and they know that we were waiting to get a set time frame on the duration of this project before we commit to moving. They should know better. And these people also want to throw a going away party. Again, I don't get it. We're really not going anywhere, lol.

Or it could also be that I'm in denial and telling myself that we're not really moving and avoiding the issue of what's going to happen if the contract gets extended 5 years like it's looking like it will...

WOW 5 years!  Maybe you are in a little bit of a denial.  Never know what will happen though.  Just update all the friends and pack your over night bag. :)

  • I think everyones going to miss you like crazy soooo that might why everyone is wanting to see you!
